- Well, I am dead serious.

- Years of System Wars and religious topics in OT have taught me that I'm never going to change anyone's mind on the internet.

- How are they "laughing their asses off during their free/bored time", yet I've got too much time on my hands and am taking this too seriously?

- I'm saying stuff they don't want to hear, they're saying stuff I don't want to hear.Tylendal

I've mentioned in other threads though, I enjoy bickering. Not being trolled if I'm playing along voluntarily. Trolls are happy, I'm happy, everyone's happy. :D When everyone's happy, that's friendship, and the ponies win. :lol:Tylendal

No offense, but what I honestly see is someone who either has too much free time on their hands and/or takes the internet way too seriously. I can imagine those who're typing those long posts that "bicker" with you laughing their asses off at the fun you're giving them on their free/bored time.

I dunno, they're convinced of something that's their own opinion and you're trying to prove them wrong. You can't bend a brick. Maybe it's all jest and laughs, but at the same time I'm inclined to not believe what anyone types on the forum regarding their views on any topic. For all I know you're dead serious in your defense and they're enjoying it.

I just told you. Roughly twenty five percent of people who enjoying watching Spongebob are adults. That sounds like a pretty huge and mainstream demographic to me. So yes. I think it would have even more of a following if it weren't for the "My Little Pony" stigma, though as I have said earlier, I don't think fans would have been quite as in your face about it.Tylendal

Here's an idea... Stop trying to defend your fandom/community and just live. You're a fan of a cartoon, so what? Gamers put so much emphasis on gaming as an identity while being criticized and labelled yet they couldn't care less. As long as you're not shoving your views down someone's throat and offending people just do whatever you're doing and go on living.

You're one of the easiest troll baits I've seen on this forum.

I have to wonder though , how does nostalgia fit in , if youve never played a particular game? nostalgia towards general gameplay type/visuals?

Darkman2007

I'm only talking about games we've actually played or atleast remember the hype and top-of-the-line feel that sorrounded the games when they first came to stores. Seeing the games showcased at stores. And gameplay/ad clips shown on TV at the time.

I'm talking pre-internet when all we had for game news were magazines and the weekly ultra-special and must-watch shows that reviewed games.

Anyone here remember "Movies, Games, and Videos" and "Gameswatch" ? "Cybernet" is still running I think, so that doesn't count.

isn't it true that DS games use flash memory, therefore will never run out?hydralisk86

As long as the cart stays in good condition then yeah.

May I ask why you're so concerned about the longevity of save states and battery packs?

Much like what Nintendo did over here with the Mario collection on the Wii, which is really just a repackaged mario All Stars. people will buy anyhting with the right name on it.

Darkman2007

My guess is it was all down to budget. They were gearing up for Zelda's anniverssary + Skyward Sword and pretty much had no console counterpart for Mario to celebrate with. So they thought instead of marking the occassion with a bucketload of nothing "Let's make an OST assorted mix disc and bundle it with a re-release of Mario All-Stars". They could've atleast not directly emulated the SNES bundle but they were cutting corners. They probably came to the conclusion that retro gaming is popular enough these days to turn a profit with the least cost. Sega set the benchmark with Sonic's anniversary anywho.

I still own the Mario All-Stars cart I got back in '94. Having never owned a NES, it was awesome to finally play the original Mario Bros. trilogy (in US sense) upscaled and re-mastered to boot.

It's probably more that

1. The original copies were likely way more expensive than the overpriced repackaging (I think FFVI was roughly 100 USD)

2. They thought they could convince people there was new content with FMV shots.

hakanakumono

I don't mean to sound arrogant, but I believe the reasons above are way too vague and simple to justify what is in the end a business decision.

Marketing departments in companies like Square take more into account than a simple: "The FMV sequences is more than enough new content". The first point is however, in a way, legit.

But again, finance and marketing are more thorough and detailed with their business decisions than a simple "This FMV is enough" or "The package is currently too high a price". For all we know their decision to bundle it had nothing to do with neither mine nor your assumptions.

Im sure the FF games were sold seperately , was this collection a late thing?Darkman2007

Yes, they were initially sold seperately in Japan. My guess from a Marketing standpoint is that culturally Japanese consumers find retro gaming more appealing than do Western consumers.

The only reason they weren't sold seperately in the West was due to the persumed value of a retro bundle compared to the stand-alone game. Especially during the time of the games' re-release.

The Sonic 3D games. They're downright horrible at times and unnecessarily difficult but I can't help but smile whenever I see the credits screen after a frustrating campaign.

Resident Evil: Survivor. It's so bad it's good. HVGN's playthrough of it brought back alot of hilarious memories.

" A PicTUUURE. NO! This is ME! IEEEEEEE am Vincent!"

Superman 64 (go ahead and say I'm crazy, but I enjoyed it, sure the controls are bit rough but I conquered them :D )

rwallacefan

Dude, you're not alone. I beat it as well. Dragging the frozen ice blocks of Jimmy and Lois across the narrow walkway was torture. But I kept replaying after failing again and again til I beat it. Ending was like "All that for this 5-second scene? WTF!". Man I had too much free time back then LOL!

Oh yes, nostalgia. I retro for that as well. But it's more about looking up boxart and gameplay vids on Youtube than actually replaying the game these days. And only if I'm really bored.

YouTube is literally a time machine. I feel like I'm back at that age whenever I see a video/ad/gameplay/cartoon related to that time. Less so music videos.
