"Happy" April Fool's Day!

On tonight's X-Play, Adam Sessler raised a good point: "What happened to the tradition of April Fool's jokes being funny?" Maybe it's my cynicism talking, but it seems that nowadays, celebrating April Fool's Day means changing your website to make it look like someone else's or saying you're ending your site or reporting obviously false news. And in a phoned-in, easy-to-tell way. It's all online these days, no one tries to pull anything in real life (as far as I know). Not that some people CAN'T pull it off well. About the only good and funny attempt at this, in fact the only funny joke I've seen all day, was gaming news blog Destructoid changing their site to a Fox News blog. ("We blame, you agree.") But maybe I'm biased because I think Fox News is one of those things that's always funny to make fun of. Like Scientology. Speaking of Fox News, Gamepolitics, another gaming news blog, didn't pull any jokes but showed a screenshot of game-hatin' jackass Jack Thompson on Fox News, the only media outlet that still pretends (or actually thinks?) Jack has any credibility. The screenshot shows Jack with the title of "First Amendment attorney". It's from an appearance last week, so it's not actually an April Fool's joke, but as GP notes, to anyone who knows what Jack is like, it really seems like one. The Adventures of Dr. McNinja had an obviously fake twist. It was also funny, but because it was Dr. McNinja, which is always funny anyway, and not for the actual April Fool's joke itself. VG Cats made fun of Ctrl-Alt-Del. Y'know, just like everyone else. Everyone talks too much and has the same face. It's been done. VGC is normally hilarious, but this was just everything everyone says about CAD said once more. At least the part about CAD using one of VGC's gags was funny. That is, I'm assuming that was the point of that comparison. YouTube Rickroll'd the featured videos. I didn't think people still did that. I probably would've been caught off guard had I not been warned in advance by SomethingAwful. And if I actually regularly (or ever) looked at the featured videos. A rather obstructive joke, though. I mean, you can still see the actual videos by going to the user channels, but it needlessly complicates things. The Zelda movie trailer. I first heard about it as being a joke anyway, then saw it on X-Play. Meh. I suppose all that's left is whatever Adult Swim is doing tonight, if anything. And if they do, hopefully it'll be better than just adding fart sounds. EDIT: Okay, so they dudn't do anything. I guess since they cut anime from weeknights, they didn't have anything they wanted to make fun of.
