Thank you too for this long explaination. but now I'm in a whole new situation, I can exchange my cellphone ( Sony Ericsson W810i) for a GC with a modchip, lots of games on DVD, controllers, memory card etc. Should I do that?busak

That decision comes up to you completely, but no I myself would not consider that. For one that money isn't going towards Nintendo, which in turn uses it to make new better games. Secondly, the games on the Gamecube really don't cost that much at all either. Thirdy, from what I saw on Amazon that seems to be a pretty good phone and not worth trading in.

I'd like to play both Zelda's, metroid prime 1 & 2, fire emblem, viewtiful joe, tales of symphonia, maybe pokemons, paper mario TTYD, mario sunshine, anyway lots of games. , but than again it's not as cheap here as it is in the USA, but the wii is more expensive too, so... OMG, i really don't know what to do.

busak

1.) You have a good list of varied games that you wish to play on the Gamecube
2.) The Gamecube system itself is a lot cheaper than other newer consoles
3.) Most of the games on your list can be found priced rather low

I see no reason as to why you shouldn't get a Gamecube. The prices for the console and games themselves are rather low compared to other consoles, so the price incentive is there. You'll get to play a good number of Nintendo titles as well.
There's also the fact that in the future (if you decide to buy a Wii) you'll be able to use everything for the Gamecube on the Wii, like the games, controller(s), and memory card.
Most of all it's the games that you listed made me believe that you would be better off getting a Gamecube. You seem to like single player games that fall into the RPG and action Genre. The Wii at the moment has for that Twilight Princess (which you can play on the Gamecube) and Super Paper Mario. And sadly there aren't that many games like that coming up for another few months, likely around October, and even then depending on if you live somewhere like in Europe then those games are going to be pushed back for you another few months.
Plus those games that you'd like also take a good number of hours. Enough to hold you over for a good long time. You can play some great games now on a low cost system. Then you can have fun with those and get the Wii in the future (maybe next year) and some of those games that you'd like to play on the Wii will likely have lower price tags by then and also the Wii itself will be a lot easier to find.
With all that said now the decision falls onto you with two choices:

1.) Get the Gamecube and some games, they'll hold you off from buying a Wii for a good while.

or

2.) Get the Wii, but realize that if you want those games that are Wii must haves for you (Twilight Princess and Super Paper Mario) that you will be paying atleast $100 (in american dollars), ontop of $250. Also realize that if money is an issue then after you buy the system itself you likely wont be able to buy Gamecube games for a while. And while that goes on Gamecube games will start dissappearing from store shelves and be even harder to find.

I might buy a wii, but here it costs 408 dollars, plus games for it are very expensive too (somewhere about 85 dolllars), so you can see my problems, but i think I'm going to save up some money and buy a wii after all, it looks very fun. How much does wii cost in the USA? busak

The Wii costs $250 in the United States. Depending on where you live and that countries quality of living the prices may differ. Though in some places the pricing makes no sense.
I bought a Gamecube a month ago instead of a Wii since money was a bit of a problem considering that I didn't want to put a lot of money into a console. I factored in the pricing of $250 for the console, $60 for an extra controller (nunchuck+wiimote), $100 for two games. I added all that up and realized that at the moment I didn't want to spend that much money when I could easily get a Gamecube and a few games for significantly less. I got a Gamecube, Super Mario Sunshine, Super Paper Mario, a memory card, and an extra controller for $150.
So in my opinion I do believe it is worth it. Though there are a lot of other factors to figure out depending on the individual person. You should really do what I did and check out what games you really want for the Gamecube and if you can name atleast 3 or 4 then I'd say that yes you should get the system.

I'd recommend either of the Lego Star Wars games considering the appeal of the fun co-op play. You can be playing and the only thing the second person needs to do is press the start button and they'll jump into the game with you. My sister and I both played through it and had a lot of fun. The combat it's not hard by any means but it is fun. The levels are nicely varied and detailed, and the puzzle elements of the game are fun as well since they aren't hard.
They're both fun games but I'd recommend getting the first Lego Star Wars game. It's only $19.99 and to me it was a pretty good value. If you are curious about the game you should check out the game information on Gamespot along with a few gameplay videos.

Anybody know a really good game for the Ds that wil keep me entertained on a 10 hour flight?DogBen

I was in somewhat the same situation around Christmas a few months ago and I bought Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time since I had heard rather positive reviews. It's an RPG but with action elements since you have to press buttons at certain times or else your attack/item wont really do anything at all. There is also a good amount of action and the game makes great use of both screens. It kept me entertained and I found it rather fun. There is not much backtracking and the game keeps a rather good and balanced pace. Also it's pretty good eye candy especially if you are playing on a DS Lite with all the bright and varied colors. I clocked in around 14-16 hours so if it is a round trip you likely wont be bored on the way back.

If you are still able to find the system and games in store rather easily then I doubt that anyone can declare a system dead, be it the Gamecube or any other system. It also depends a lot on how long you've supported the system yourself. If you got the Gamecube back in it's early lifespan and can not think of any more games that you wish to play or purchase then yes to you it is likely dead. Yet, for someone like myself that recently bought it and are no where near finishing games like Twilight Princess and Paper Mario then it is a good while before I'd consider it dead.
Even if Paper Mario and Twilight Princess were the only games I'd ever play on my Gamecube I wouldn't care. Because so far I've had a lot of fun and to me my purchase of the Gamecube is completely justified.

I'm about 8 hours into the game and I've been having a lot of fun so far. It's a great game on either the Gamecube or Wii from what I've seen and read. When I started playing my only concern was the aiming with certain weapons like the slingshot but I haven't had any problems with it at all.

I just bought a Gamecube yesterday and it does seem to me to really be worth the money. A sale at my local Toy's R Us was what made me cave in. The sale was that for $100 you'd get the system, a game worth $19.99, and a memory card. To me it seemed like a rather good deal considering that the games that I really wanted to play on the Wii (if I got that) were Twilight Princess and Super Paper Mario, both of which are ports from Gamecube games that are pretty much just spruced up.
My situation was that I really did want to buy a Wii (I still somewhat do), but I really did not want to go through the hassel of finding a Wii with how they are still rather hard to find in stores. I've read much about the the game drout that the Wii seems to currently be suffering and well I also thought about how I would like to play Gamecube games on that system if I seemed to experience that myself.
If I bought everything seperately that would have been $10 for the memory card, $20 for Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, and $25 for a controller. All of that adds up to $55. For just about $50 more I got a great deal because in the future I can use these things on a Wii if I ever buy one, but in the meantime I can play on this great system and know my money isn't going to waste. I've spent about 3-4 hours playing Paper Mario since yesterday and I really don't regret my decision.

In short:

-I believe the Gamecube is a good deal
-There are some really great games that don't cost much
-It has fun games (which is what really matters)

I've also been curious about it. The anime style cutscenes do seem interesting. I'll have to check my local Best Buy tomorrow and see if they have it already, normally they don't have games in store until around a week after release.
