Well how many classic trilogies did the original Xbox have?........ That probably answers why they dont like it.

Arkham City, Infamous, Red Dead, L.A Noire are all great examples of what you can do with 15+ hours of interesting fleshed out gameplay. 10 hours an under and I feel im not getting my moneys worth. With the excetion of Uncharted for me is cinematic/game glory. I love Metroid games especially the Primes becuase of their backtracking environments make it feel believeiable where youre "playing at". I mention it because I remember it as a pretty lenghty game (for me at least).
I disagree with the 18+ hours comment, many games would just drag on and be filled with needless filler if they were that long. For and RPG that length is fine but for other genres like shooters they really shouldn't aim for it unless somehow they can manage to keep i fun and varied for that length of time.soulitaneI agree with the shooters genre it would have to be varied but thats where all the extra effort comes in. Mass Effect does a great job with many breaks for story driven sequences. So the idea mainly pertains to 3rd person games which I think would be less of a drag than first person.
[QUOTE="Andres001"][QUOTE="dotWithShoes"]Haven't been around gaming long if you think $60 is high for a game. Look at N64 titles.. Zelda cost $79.99. PS1 games were $50. Adjust that for inflation and look what you're paying.dotWithShoesYou're acting like those are that much of a difference, the point is in a hobby where we are shelling out the money that we are, there should be justification. Back then when the industry was still young with almost no competitors compared to now they could set the price to whatever they pleased regardless of how much quality and content. After all this time the industry has evolved in many ways and have seen a wide variety of games so for that games now should be held to higher standards. You said "I just wish that the quality of games go up as fast as the price tags do."... That's just it, the quality of games have gone up and the prices have NOT gone up significantly. When you adjust prices for inflation, you were paying MORE for a Ps1 game, with less 'quality', than what you're getting now. Obviously you are taking it too much into literal context but to a certain extent yes game prices have gone up and inflation plays part to what you're saying. It was a comment said just to overstate my point that games should improve in terms of story telling, longevity and detail. The quality of the single player experience have obviously gone up technically with the amazing performance graphics and all the other neat things but games are going more towards half assing it and adding online because of money. You can't sit there and tell me that you haven't played a game, finished the story after 10-12 hours and wished that there was just more. I think thats a way money cow developers cover that up with online now a days. The value of the single player has gone down and we can sit here and point out a few games that disprove this statement but the fact of the matter is the industry as a majority proves this correct.

Yes those are all great. Thats why I still love Nintendo because besides their millions of spinoffs ( Mario Party, baseball ect) , their main core franchises are exceptional.Yeah High Quality single player only experiences are becoming fewer, but I am truly glad for the Batman Arkham games and Skyward Sword. The inFAMOUS games are also nothing to laugh at either.

Yes they are put on used shelves quite frequently but lets remember this is a pretty expensive hobby that we all share. Prices for games arent cheap to any extent and not everyone has the same income. My main point with the price is that if they are going to increasingly add to the total that we have to pay at least put more effort and passion. I dont want to abolish multiplayer because I personally love it but the single should be held to higher standard.
The game developers should focus on making amazing single-player story modes rather than slappin on online multiplayer just for the sake of it. With all that efforrt and resources for the online aspect would be going towards making a sound game. Also I think the bar should be raised higher from the "9-12 hour" spectrum and go towards 18+. We are already slaves to the $60 price tags bestowed upon us so I think the quality of games should improve. BY NO MEANS am I saying multiplayer sucks, for I love to play online, shooters, sports ect., but I am speaking from the point of view from a more traditional gamer from the time where online wasnt that much of a factor. With all the advancements to the technical side of games with better graphics and what not, I would of expected the quality of games to increase.
Rpgs dont have to be the only games that are long and not every game has to be an Oblivion or Skyrim type of long game. This is primarly towards action/adventure games, third person shooters, rpg ect.
Sadly the reality that it is a business and it is that its all about money. Time is money so as long as they are pushing out half ass games and slapping online to cover their ass they will just continue to happen. We do get rare gems where games are packed with little and amazing attention for detail such as Metal Gear Solid 4 (just random for the sake of an example). If this generation is lost, lets hope that it might change in the next (PS4, Xbox 720, Wii U).I just wish that the quality of games go up as fast as the price tags do.
