Yes, everyone has made a blog about this, who they think will win the next-gen race. Same old same old, but I'm bored, and I hate looking at a blank blog page.
First, we have the Wii, Nintendo's console in the next-gen race. Although lacking in eye-candy, it makes up for it with an intuitive and indepth controller. Now, the textures won't be there, which doesn't bother me much, but the physics, animation, lightning, and A.I. are what I'm interested in. After playing games like RE4, MGS2, and Shadow of the Colossus, I'm really excited to see what the Wii hardware can produce, and I'm more excited to see indie developed games. You get the Virtual Console, which Nintendo fans hype so much, but the thing about that is, Capcom, Namco, Atari, etc. have been re-releasing their classic games all the time, and it doesn't cause a midnight rush. I guess it will be there for a dry spell in Wii games like summer and what not. The controller, which excites me to no end, is what's driving the Wii. Imagine FPS with that thing. Glorious. And they have the classic controller too for games that are hard to use with the Wiimote, which is good, so long as it comes with the Wii. 512 MB internal memory is good, since you'll only be using it for game saves anyway. Coupled with cheap development cost and low pricing, the Wii has the potential to make or break itself. The ENTIRE future of the Wii will focus on the third-party developers creativity and imagination.
Next-up, we have the 360. While it doesn't add fancy motion sensing or a plethora of mult-media functions, it does one thing very well, and that is gaming. All you need is memory cards/hard-drive, two controllers, and LIVE and you are set. The ability to download game demos instead of trusting reviews or renting is a godsend. The game line-up is superb and the developers on board with it are many. LIVE, the 360's ace, has improved so much since the original Xbox. The 360 is a completly new experience than it's predecessor, which didn't wow me too much last-gen. In fact, it reminds me more of a next-gen PS2. Games like Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Lost Planet, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Oblivion, Half-Life 2, Dead Rising, etc. build upon the franchises and dwarf the last Xbox's limited quality game library, at least in my opinion. Peter Moore is treating game developers right, and the price of the 360 is a tad up there, but it's doable.
Last, but definatly not least, we have the PS3. The successor to a 100+ selling console, it's fanbase is widespread and it's name is very well known throughout the world. It's got the mult-media, free online, "upgraded" controllers, 60 GB hardrive, Linux OS, and a CPU that rivals supercomputers of nearly a decade ago. It's an incredibly impressive console. Now, the problem. Blu-Ray. Sony's attempt to invade our living rooms with their media format. Some may see this as a good thing, but I don't. Expensive and not necessary yet, this has caused nothing but trouble for the PS3. Just think, if Sony would have stuck with DVD, the PS3 would have enjoyed a nice spring launch pre-E3, which as we all know, their E3 showing killed their hype. Not only that, but it adds and extra $200 to the consoles price. Not good. Aside from that, it's a great looking console. Some of the things are out there, like some of the unecessary multi-media, but hey, if you want an all in one media machine, go for the PS3. The games for it look amazing, MGS4, Assassin's Creed, ZotE 3, FFXIII, Team ICO's project, Resistence, etc. The problem lies with the multiplats, which are many, that are also available on the 360 for $200. Sony's going to have to really deliver on the exclusives and free online if they wish to justify the extra $200, cause the only thing that's doing it right now is the Blu-Ray, which I'm not at all interested in, but hey, that's just me. The PS3 is going to be amazing, but if Sony wishes to sell like they did before, they're going to need to deliver.
All this aside, the biggest factor of all when it comes to the next-gen consoles is the exclusives. Games are what you buy the console for in the first place, right?
That's my look into the next- gen console race. Hope you all enjoyed, and for those that read all of it, thank you.
