[QUOTE="AnotherMartyr"][QUOTE="coolbeans90"]

I am right about all of those decades. The 20s was almost like a third world nightmare with a piss poor economy relative to the one now, even if growing more quickly. Food might have been slightly, granted only slightly, cheaper, holding inflation constant, but absolute wages has objectively risen since.

coolbeans90

True I will agree that overall it is better to live in this time. I feel that change really is pointless now while in the past $100 really was alot of money. I would not be depressed to live in the past as there are pros. I mean the 80s and 90s were pretty awesome... 70s and 60s had their pros as well as did all decades. I mean I think in the past the music was better but that is subjective and probably an idiotic view I possess.

$100 was a lot of money, but you made a lot fewer $100s. At the end of the day, you now have more sh!t to show for your toil than in the 40s. Wages increased steadily 'til about '70s and 80s, where nominal wages increased but real wages haven't really since.

O

I like their music to and we can listen to all of it for free.

Very true, you have successfully refuted my points on music and quality of life I concede to you on that. I do prefer some facets of the past though and I feel we are losing our liberty.

[QUOTE="AnotherMartyr"]Our water did not have flouride in it until the 50s. -Sun_Tzu-

Its true and people like Edward Bernays brainwashed public opinion through their advertising. Flouride was used as a rat poison, and the aluminum industry needed to get rid of the flouride in the factory infact they are at the center of pushing the flouridization of the water supply. The real elite sit back manipulating public opinion, I am not some high class intellectual but the information is pretty public and disturbing. I feel that they do not bother silencing the information because they demonize those who speak out about it as conspiracy theorists. Many food products contain flouride and do not display any notice on their label that they do. The Rockafeller foundation publish letters on eugenics and we are currently going into a discussion of a one child policy like China's (which I actually have no problem with but would rather tax people for havng more childeren). Anyways I would definately say that the average American had more civil liberties back then, although minority groups and women definately are better off now in my opinion. However while we are moving towards equality we are also losing our freedoms and that is my main problem with the era we live in now. I would prefer equal opportunity and liberty. I do not view the two concepts as mutually exclusive.

Well, you are incorrect. Adjusted for inflation, wages are higher and quality of life is unequivocally higher now.

Food and drinks were much cheaper as well as healthier. Our water did not have flouride in it until the 50s. I think the 20s was certainly a better economy. I am actually not certain about the 40s so you may be right.

I do not drink alcohol but when I turn 21 if I had to ingest any form of an alcoholic beverage it would be something hard like whiskey or vodka (I might as well go all out and I like the sound of both beverages). I probably would like vodka the most because I heard it contains potatoes and gives a stinging taste in the mouth.

Enjoying the beauty of the world around you I guess... Socialization sucks if you are like me haha. Another beauty is free will albeit influenced by a vast subconscious collective network of minds that influence decisions. Also watching movies, playing games, listening to music, learning, etc. Sharing what you found with other people who share and letting others share information with you...

Indeed, although that is probably the time in history I'm most fascinated by.... I'd rather kill myself than live during it, tho.

I respectfully disagree with both of you, adjusted to inflation I believe the quality of life was greater than it is now. The consumer had much more purchasing power. Equality and technological advancement make the period we live in now better but back then the consumer was more powerful and our currency more powerful in my opinion.

Cantalope is probably the only food I really dislike along with tomatoes... I can eat both but I do not like their taste.

We have become more equal but financially the average man is worse off. Even discounting inflation housing prices $30 out of roughly $1000 compared to out of $900 of $33,00 Rural has gone up much worse. That is discounting inflation and just going by the percentage of cost for each income to live. I know you used to be able to buy alot with a nickel.
