The Economy and Gaming

With the sequester in effect which is threatening to derail the economic recovery I have a simple question to throw out there. How has the economic downfalls, which have become the norm, affected your purchase decisions? Many young people, college graduates included, have trouble finding employment. Some to the point of moving back in with mom and dad as a 20something. Do they still choose to spend the money on gaming rather than saving to be independent? I am sure there are those out there who are downstairs playing CoD all day rather than proactively seeking independence. Younger kids, how has your parents situation affected their decision in whether to buy that new game for you? I can imagine mom and dad saying "sorry son, your dad is unemployed, food is more important" Has the focus shifted to the used game market as they are a less expensive purchase? Is this part of the decry of we will not buy a system that bars used games? I'm fortunate as a 30something with reliable, good income which affords me the luxury of buying whatever I feel like, new if I so choose without affecting my finances. Just wondering, some of you out there leave some responses in how your spending habits and those of who you rely on to make the purchase have adjusted?

An Old Soldier's Musings on Gaming

I'm an Iraq veteran who was blown up by a suicide bomber in 06. I had part of my brain blown out (seriously) but survived and actually doing well. Nearly lost my R arm so now gaming is rather difficult with my R hand being slower, but still able to do it. I avoid competitive online b/c I simply can't keep up. I prefer to play RPGs and single player with good narratives. Just happy I am still able to play.
