As I go through multiple message board and comments on gaming sites, all of them seem to be bashing any article involving microsoft's Kinect. The way many people view is that kinect is just a cash in on the casual audience, and that its just a gimmick instead of the promise that was given to us gamers as a "revolution". Think outside of the box about this for a moment tho. What if, instead of being a standalone camera where it just tracks your exoskeleton movements, we start to think of it as an extension to the controller we love ever so much. The launch titles obviously appear to be blatant rip offs of other games, but if you were a developer of games, wouldnt the thought of throwing a punch to melee a person while holding your controller feel like a given? Or what about and rts where (using starcraft as an example, and yes i know it is not an X360 title) youre micromanaging zergs and you are all the sudden being attacked on the other side of the map, but you cant stop what youre doing? You could just say "Lurkers, Burrow" aand the voice commands would pick up and they would manage themselves while youre doing what youre doing without pausing for a moment. You could basically make yourself 100% more efficient in rts management. Gesture and voice commands combonations with standard controller play is definitely a possibility, and until us "Core" gamers realise that major possibility kinect brings with it for new experiences like what ive mentioned, kinect may just die because of people not realising its potential and making it DOA. Do you really want to take that chance? And for you COD and Halo fans out there..... Would it be much more satisfying to teabag someone with your actual motions?
