got my system

Alright, so I finally got my system. I decided on a PS3 after all the research I've done pointed me in that direction. I'm pretty happy about it, except the fact that I missed the deal where you turn in the PS2 for $100. I still got about 75 off, but I missed out on $50. I'm extremely excited to get it hooked up and download the updates. I've beat Resistance already on my roommate's PS3 (wont be roommates after school is over) so now I have to start over on mine. The GOW series is pretty much what clinched the deal for me and the PS3. Of course there are other tittles which are exclusive to the PS3 I'm interested in as well. If I chose the 360, it'd only be for Halo 3. I enjoyed GeOW, but not really as much as everyone else.  From my experience with the PS3 of my roommates, this system is really something else. I can't explain how cool it is, everyone who has one knows what I'm talkin about. I've actually yet to open it from the box (only because the TV it will be played on isn't going to be in the house until tonight. What I don't understand is all the negativity the people who own 360's give the PS3. It just doesn't make sense. They are just gaming consoles, not sports teams or something. Basically, the PS3 is just set up for the future better than the 360 is. Ridicule me all you want (if you back M$), but the Cell and it's media capabilities are set up to last into the next decade. My only concern is the fact I don't have an HDTV, and will have to yet again spend a bunch of money. I know you really need an HDTV to take full advantage of the system. I'm sure I'll right some more blogs now that I have something to talk about. Perhaps I'll write about how the set-up goes and the online sign-up and all that. Once I get signed up I'll throw me PSN ID on my sig (which will most likely be Badsmerf).

PS3 vs. 360

So, for my first blog, I'm going to write about the decision to buy a next-gen gaming system. I've done a ton of research over the past couple weeks trying to decide which system I wanted. I'll start out with the basics, they are very similar in what they are capable of at the moment. The 360 has a whole year head start with game developers and tittles such as Gears of War and Lost Planet are now showing what it is capable of. The PS3 on the other hand, has been out a few months, and is more difficult to program for. The end result is games on the PS3 haven't blown anyone way (but it is still doing better than 360 did at launch). The thing about PS3 that I think might be the major difference is the 7 SPE's and blue ray storage space. We haven't seen games take full advantage of this yet, but for the PS3 to be successful, they will have to. The 360 on the other hand, has more room for graphics on the RAM, having an individual 512 while the PS3 has two 256. Sony believes the RSX (the one designed for graphics) will handle a very large load and is one of the most advanced chips out there...... hope they are right becuase right now the 360 looks like it handles HD much better. While I'll say the 360 is very practical and has great aspects, I think the PS3 has more capabilities. All this makes no difference, however, if the system doesn't have games you will play often. I find myself hesitating to buy a particular one because 1) I don't have the money to buy both or I would 2) There hasn't been any games released that I really have to have. It is all about the games. I'm a big Halo fan, and enjoy playing online as much as anyone, but have never owned my own XBox. I want to buy a system for more than one game though, but they both have great tittles and I know I'd play other exclusive games to each system and enjoy them. I'm also curious how Sony's online system compares to XBox Live. For now, I will be waiting it out a bit (once my tax returns come it will make things tough). I'm not sure what exactly I'll end up with, both are great, but I'm only interested in having one.
