I spent awhile talking to the sales girl at best buy today. They were sold out of PS3's and I asked her if they were normally sold out. She said, "No, we usually have a few in stock, it's rare that we are out." I then asked her if that was due to a lack of demand. She replied, "Oh, no, not at all. People are buying them up, but we get enough of them in new shipments that when we get to one or two left on the shelves, we usually get restocked. We just sold out before the restock this time." I then asked if this was also true for the Wii. She said, "Sort of. They sell out quickly once we get them instock, but we just don't recieve as many Wii's as we do PS3s, so while we maintain a fairly steady supply of PS3's, the Wii's sell out fast and then the shelves sit empty for awhile till we get more in." I then asked her if she thought it seemed like Sony's supply chain was working, she said, "It wasn't like that when the PS3 first came out back in December, we really didn't start getting steady supplies till late January. But they've been doing a good job of keep us stocked." So it appears that there might be some truth to Phil's statements . . .

Owning games for a system you already have is way better than owning a system that you can't buy games for because you are out of money.Riverwolf007

Who said I'd be out of money? I'm just trying to figure out which is the better choice to put a gifted $300 towards.

Assuming that the PS3 is not going to see a price drop for awhile, I'm somewhat tempted to get my foot in the door now, wait for the upcoming good games, and use the $300 to buffer the impact of the cost.  I can always grab a 360 later on for $400 or less, and possibly a better one too if the new revision is released.

If I get the 360 instead, I get a decent library of used games, some good ones coming up soon, great multiplayer network, and I get it for $100 . . . but that means that sometime in the near future I'll have to plunk down $600 for a PS3 (unless you really think there's going to be a price drop by the time FFXIII comes out).

Also, if you want to take games into account, I'd be more apt to spend additional funds if I got a 360 right now, since there is a bigger library of games that I would want to plat than the PS3.

Ok, I was just given $300 to put towards my console of choice.

I've already got a Wii, so do I use this $300 to slash my investment in a PS3 in half, or do I use it to get a $100 Xbox360?  Given the current game libraries for each, the games soon to come out (especially exclusives) and any potential hardware revisions/current hardware issues/price drops, which would be the better use of the $300 as of right now?

Go!
