BIOS memory test is junk, download memtest86, put in 1 stick at a time and test it.

GTR12
Will do,thank you very much. If it's not the ram is it a PSU issues?Should i RMA it?

You should also have a look in the events viewer (start/control panel/administrative tools/event viewer) to see if anything was reported there.

There's lots of possible failures, sadly. Could be a RAM stick is faulty, or there's something wrong with the power supply. Problem is you can't be sure about the PSU without trying the computer with a second one.

RAM sticks can be tested one by one in the different RAM-slots.

JimmyJumpy
The logs in the event viewer that come up seem to coincide with when the computer shuts down are Critical, Log Name: System Source: Kernel-Power Event Id:41 Level:Critical task Category:(63) Keywords: (2) OpCode: Info "EventData BugcheckCode 0 BugcheckParameter1 0x0 BugcheckParameter2 0x0 BugcheckParameter3 0x0 BugcheckParameter4 0x0 SleepInProgress false PowerButtonTimestamp 0 " And when testing the ram stick i orignally put them into slots 2 and 4 not 1 and 3 so can i just move any to any slot and they will be fine?I have run a memory test(not sure if that's for the ram) But it came out clean(ran it from the BiOs

Sounds like something's short-circuiting after a while. You sure you used the stand-offs when you mounted the mainboard?

And what about the front panel connections? You made sure you connected them in the right fashion to the mainboard?

Could also be an overheating problem -although that hasn't got anything to do with the PC's position, but check CPU temps in the BIOS anyway... maybe you didn't apply enough thermal paste...

JimmyJumpy
Thanks for such a quick reply, Yes i used all the standoffs that would fit properly in with the motherboard on the case which was i believe,6. Will check the CPU temps now will be back in abit, and i only used the stock thermal paste...Should i buy some more and apply that? And how would i check for a short circuit? Some of the screws have these little copper i guess bulbs around them i thought those were to protect against short-circuits,but i noticed that one or two of the screw holes on the mobo weren't completely surrounded by them. And some of the I/O Connections weren't properly assigned in either my case manual or my motherboards manual for both...mabye i switched some up,But i was told nothing would have started if i got them wrong i just made the best possible educated guesses that i could. It was i believe The motherboard came with these 9 prong connectors that went into the mother board slots after the cases front i/o connectors went into them. (Those are what didn't have a proper slot for each other in either the case or motherboard manuals. Edit:The Cpu runs hot but never above 83 degrees.

Hey guys,I just built my first gaming pc and it's experiencing some power issues i will give you the details on the Rig first then the problems.I mostly use the PC for gaming also. I purchased all my parts on december 31, The specs are a: Rosewill challenger (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147153) GIGABYTE GV-N560UD-1G GeForce GTX 560 Ti (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125401) MSI P67A-G43 (B3) LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130583) Intel Core i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004EBUXSU/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details) 8 GB's of ram (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004QBUL1C/ref=oh_o01_s00_i00_details) OCZ ZS Series 750W (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005A2RJOI/ref=oh_o01_s00_i01_details) 64Bit windows 7 home premium ______ And now the actual problem(s) itself. The first time i noticed the problem is when i first left the computer on overnight when i woke up it was off completely no power at all i figured that windows update might have shut it off,but it happened again the next night. It wouldn't turn on at all.I was worried so i turned it on it's side to open it up after taking out the power and turning off the PSU i went in and made sure that all the cables were nice and secure and weren't sticking out they were,So i put the case back together and tried to turn it on and bam it worked,Now the computer won't turn on AT ALL when it's standing up only when it's on its side. And then after leaving it on all night tonight(on it's side idk if that was a bad idea or not, made sure no vents were blocked and it had airflow) i wanted to see if it would turn off while i was gone,it didn't.I got home took it off lock it and everything was fine but after a few minutes it lost power completely LEDs,FANs,both case and CPU all went of completely and it started up fine. And now here i am typing this out on the computer it's running smoothly (on it's side). Edit:First times i lost power did some troubleshooting thought it was a problem with Systems away mode,Even though i couldn't find the options to turn it off in Bios i did in windows options. And my computer stays on while i'm away for longs periods of time only when i put it on lock mode(theory don't know if it would stay on if i just left it alone like i have when i noticed the problems.) Now for the only problem i had during the installation of all the parts was when i finished everything i tried to turn the power on and nothing got power at all i was really worried but figured out that the main Mobo power cable wasn't plugged completely into the mobo once i did that it turned on and was fine. Now actual details about how the cables are set up is the ones near the CPu fan are zip tied together(plastic ziptie not metal so they don't accidentally hit the cpu fan) and a bunch of the power cables that are bunched up are zip tied together also so they don't rub up against the Video card heatsinks. Thanks for reading if you made it this far i tried to give as much details as possible so i could get a good idea about what i'm dealing with and what i should expect from the long term health of my computer given these problems at the start kinda has me worried haha and if i need to look into returning some parts before the warranty is up that may be broken. Edit:I posted this somewhere else but they didn't really help at all so i have a few more updates to add the computer wouldn't turn on standing up i took the screws outta the PSU (the ones into the case to mount it) remounted the PSU and it turned on standing up after that then when i thought it was fine standing up it shutt off again and will only go on it's side after. If you need any other details or information just ask i would be more then happy to provide it. Thanks for reading, any help would be greatly appreciated. Edit:Oh yes on the other place i posted asking for help the only answer i got was this link to a problem about the power cord "http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] eywords%29" and i don't believe it's a power cord issue because i switched out the power cable with an older one and the problem still happened.

If you're not planning on running any applications that take advantage of 8 threads, you might be better off going with an i5 2500 or 2500K and using the money you saved for a GTX 570 or 2GB GTX 560 Ti.

And I'm assuming you've already got an adequate power supply and HDD?

GS550L

I have a HDD but not a power supply how should i choose one? ...Thanks i will keep that in mind about the video card

Hey guys,
I have some questions i would like to ask i need to figure out if i should upgrade this computer that was made in 2007.Or build a completly new one.
The main purpose i want to upgrade is so i can play WoW again(i use to but quit when my computer was still fast).I could never play on anything but low specs and would always lagg in big parts of the game(major citys and loading the raids and stuff)
So i will list some specs for you guys so you can see what kind of computer i have.
Specs:
I am running Windows Vista Home basic(32 Bit).Version 6.0.6000 Build 6000

Dell,Inspiron 531S

Processor:AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core processor 3800+ 2.00 GHz

958 MB Ram
Graphics Card:NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 [Display adapter]
