This game has been sucking up my free time immensely lately heh. I absolutely loved the Battlefield 1942 series; including both expansions, and now am infatuated with the newest edition to the Battlefield title... Battlefield 2.
The new features to this game are very fun and create a much more indept appeal to modern combat FPS gaming. The Commander mode allows you to call for artillery strikes, deploy UAV scanning, satellite scans, and deploy ammo/repair/health supply to your squads & troops as well as repair items. Very sweet addition indeed.
The squad based aspects are nice as well and really fuel the desire to actually contribute to TEAMWORK; a much needed and desireable aspect many wish happened more often in online games today. As a squad leader, you can send out various orders to your squad members such as attacking a control point, repairs needed at a point, demolitions needed, etc. This also works together for squads to accumulate team points for better stat improvement and gameplay.
The online stats/profle is a very unique and welcomed feature as well. This allows players to strive for specific goals, weapon unlocks, rank increase, and general statistical data gathering on a player's skills and play history.
Even though I do still have an OLD system that I cannot believe even RUNS this game, it runs pretty smoothly on this outdated system on low settings. Considering the fact that I have older ram and only 896mb of it, a CPU well below the minimum requirements, and a videocard that just barely meets below the minimum requirements, I am still surprised the game runs as well as it does on low settings. Of course I am working at purchasing parts one by one for a complete new system and it will be quite some time until that is complete; 3-5 months estimated, I am thoroughly pleased with the gameplay I have experienced in Battlefield 2 thus far.
This game is definitely one of my favorites now, and will most likely be one of my all-time favorites like the Battlefield 1942 series is. So if you haven't played this game yet; and have a fairly updated system, try out the multiplayer demo and/or go buy the game. If you liked Battlefield 1942, I'm sure you'll like this game then :). Have fun, and keep fraggin :P
