It Returns...

Hello!

It dawned on me recently that I've neglected my Gamespot account just a bit recently, and so I felt as though it was time to come back, and hopefully re-invigorate it a bit. We'll see what happens. You (whoever you are) see posts from me in the future about good ol' video games, and you may see me commenting on the forums or on posts. You also may not see me do anything at all, because I'm too lazy to maintain something like this at the same time as Facebook, Youtube, Twitter and my blog. Like I said, we'll see what happens.

See you later :) (maybe)

Hogs of War

Ah, those were the days...before worms became 3D and ruined itself, when we could do battle with pigs with various weapons on various landscapes. Life was good. Then it disappeared. The PS1 was slowed down in production to compensate for its successor and as the PS1 died, so did hogs of war. Since then, theres been no grunt or sniff of any kind from them. Until now, apparently. Basically, im trying to say how awesome hogs of war was and that it was underappreciated and that there may just be a sequel on the way! Just type in hogs of war 2 on wikipedia. Theres so little news on it and the release date seems very soon. I fear it may be rushed; and hence tat. Ah, who cares, its hogs of war, it would take an idiot to ruin it. So what do you think of hogs of war? Any memories?

Smash Bros Brawl-roster

Now let me say this before i begin. The brawl roster was great. It was varied enough and has some neat new additions. It just kills me to think of how many could've made it. The characters i thought of are all feasible, not like some of the ridiculous suggestions ive seen. (darth vader?!?! WHY?). Ive managed to bump up the roster to a pretty huge 60, and ive thought them through as to whether they could really work in the game. Ridley for example is ruled out as he just wouldnt fit. The scale would be off. So anyway, here goes.

  • Waluigi
  • Baby Mario and Baby Luigi (work like the ice climbers)
  • Bowser Jr
  • Daisy (as much as i dislike her)
  • Paratroopa (multiple jumps, has squirtles shell move)
  • Paper Mario
  • King K Rool
  • Dark Samus
  • Shadow
  • Zant
  • Toon Ganon
  • Krystal
  • Mega Man
  • Dr Mario (a bit of filler tbh)
  • Bomberman
  • Kamek
  • Boo
  • Mii
  • Minun and Plusle (again, like the ice climbers)
  • Balloon Fighter
  • Mewtwo
  • Roy
  • Dixie Kong
  • Petey Piranha
  • Zero Suit Samus as a seperate individual fighter

There are some clear balancing issues. Most of these characters are from the super mario universe. However, it is nintendos main franchise so, maybe its ok.

Please feel free to comment

Timesplitters 4

I fear the worst. With Free Radical going down the pan, Timesplitters 4 (probably multiformat) and Star Wars Battlefront 3 may never happen. Its such a shame because timesplitters and battlefront are such great series' and seeing them disappear would be a great loss. Of course, a takeover is possible so we could still see them both released. If we never get timesplitters 4, i will probably revert back to the second one; such an awesome game, with brilliant multiplayer.

Football (soccer) on Wii

Fifa 08 played well but had no manager mode. Pes 2008 had an addictive champions road mode and a great new control system but had poor graphics and made multiplayer confusing at times. Mario Strikers was a great game that was fast paced, brutal, addictive and actually very challenging. However it sometimes felt like it needed more captains and modes. In fact, it may have been too hard. Fifa 09 came in and improved on 08 by adding career mode, mii matches, pes style controls and the usual added leagues and players. It was good but way way way too easy, even on world class! The mii mode was far too limited but online play was decent. What will pes 2009 bring? We can only hope for master league, champions league and champions rode modes. That would be brilliant as it would make the game last so much longer. Hopefully konami will more than polish the pretty jagged graphics and tweak the controls. That would make the perfect football game.

Racing Games on Wii

I play games of all genres but i particularly like racing games. When the wii was announced I thought that racing would be perfect for the console. So where are they all? Excite Truck-too short, not enough variety, rubbish multiplayer. Mario Kart Wii-too luck centred, strange track choices, but great online play. Ferrari Challenge-wheres the multiplayer? Need for Speed-pah. In my opinion, all of the racing games on the wii have vital flaws that prevent them from being great games. I loved excite truck but it needed more modes, more tracks, more multiplayer options and online play. I never really fell for Mario Kart Wii which is a shame because i love all the previous games in the series. Every time i played it i got annoyed by the choice of retro tracks (wheres waluigi pinball? tick tock clock? daisy cruiser?) and adding 4 more racers made the races too hectic and often, a total beginner could fluke and win. Great for the beginner, disappointing for the gamer. The 360 and the PS3 have plenty of racing games (especially 360. The wii has a serious gap in its library that desperately needs filling. I just hope something will come over the horizon sooner rather than later. What do you think?
