Since my purchase of the PS3 on 12/22/06, I've purchased 19 games to date (1/19/08). Albeit a slow ride in in release dates (thanks to games being initially built on the 360, & later being restructured for the PS3, but NOT using the PS3's true muscle), I've still had a pretty good 13 months of gaming. Here where I stand in my collection thus far (in no particular order):
Marvel Ultimate Alliance: As an avid comic reader as a kid, this game appealed to that sense. With Iron Man being 1 of my ultimate characters, & him being a cover character, I had to have it! LOL With a very loose story, & less than expected graphics, this was a short-lived play, after I completed the story mode. Largest problem? The characters were too small.
MotorStorm: The only reason why I bought this, is I got it from a bargain store for $35. I couldn't see spending the entire $65, because the game play's not deep enough. It's still a very pretty game. But, I'll have to get my PS3 online to get the downloadable extra content before I'll go back to it.
Fight Night Round 3: This was the first game that I purchased that finally made me happy about my PS3 purchase! As a former pugialist, the realism of this game kept me encompassed. I'm still playing it as a single player & against others. I have a fellow deejay that I STILL a stomping to! LOL
NBA Street Homecourt: Graphically gorgeous. It seems scaled back on innovation made famous in the 1st 3 offerings, but, still a good game. I'd have to play it more to further explore this. I've only played it about 4-5 times to date. LOL
Def Jam Icon: Graphically crazy, but I have yet to adjust to the gameplay associated with it. I guess I should Expect a change with a change of generation systems. I can't pass complete judgement on this until I play it more. 4-5 spins to date. Addendum: I've played more of it. Gameplay's kinda repetitive, & the storyline's almost the same as the previous offerings. It's still kinda fun to see where things go, & how well you can manage to make money as a record label.
All Pro Football 2K8: This, by far, was THE most anticipated game for me. As pro football is still my #1 favorite sport, & having grown extremely tired of Madden's long list of short-comings, I had to have this. This was a craving for me, thanks to its little brother, NFL 2K5. Scaled back from its little brother game, it's still a good game. Even though I thought that I wouldn't, I've eventually created 2 additional teams (1 thanks to the codes of the teams of the NFL uniforms, & a coach that comes with the Pittsburgh that strikes a huge resemblance to Mike Tomlin). I'm a pro football enthusiast. I can't stay away from this game. The game play is still fun for me.
NBA 2K7: Since I already owned this game for the PS2, this was initially an experiment for me. I wanted to feel the game play differences, as well as view the graphic differences on my own. The graphics, hands down, were way better on the PS3; however, on the plug-n-play factor, PS2 had that beat. With the nagging problem that still exists in the newer model (too many missed shots), you had to tweak it to get the effect that should've already been there. However, it became good enough to give my PS2 version to an incle. LOL
College Hoops 2K7: A gorgeous graphic diet feature version of the pro game. Just because it's a college game, doesn't mean that it has to feel extremely different, control wise. After adjusting, this became fun.
Heavenly Sword: This was a sleeper in my collection, until I finally played it, & couldn't put it down. This is like playing a CG movie!! The story is good, characters are good, acting is good, graphics are good, lip-syncing with voice acting is really ground breaking. The story is short, because the game & story are encompassing Worthy spend!!
John Woo's StrangleHold: Nice looking game, but plagued with a few headaches. In addition to being short (completed this in 2 days of playing, even with working! - LOL), the camera angles weren't too great, & the controls were suspect. Not a bad game, but disappointing due to the wait.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma: This was long awaited by me since this was Ninja Gaiden Black on the XBox. I didn't own an XBox either. LOL The game is a loveshot. The boss difficulty was just right. Although, I was disappointed at the story ending, the game is fantastic. I'll go back to complete the mission mode, & even the 5 hidden missions.
Madden 08: I knew before I bought this, that this was not gonna be a good game. I didn't know exactly how bad, until I actually bought it. This game stinks on the PS3. The graphics are bad, & the frame rate makes it that much worse. This is THE 2nd worse outing for Madden ever (the 1st outing on the PS1 was THE WORST!!). However, in its defense, I keep hearing this game is way better on the XBox 360. So, I'm waiting to see it on the 360.
Time Crisis 4: Even though the critics slammed this game due to the graphics, it's still 100% Time Crisis. The only question that I initialy had, prior to purchase & even before playing it, is how the new light gun would work. I have a 46" HDtv. How would these 2 lttle sensors that come with it cover all of this?!?!? Well, it did! This is a still a very fun play (especially with a much larger screen). I still have to go further in the game, & get used to the gunners that keep landin' those sneaky bullets in on me! LOL
NBA 2K8: With almost a graphic overhaul, I never knew this game could get any better. It has!!! They've tightened the moving schematics, & made it graphically THE most realistic looking basketball game to date. Still the problem of missed shots persist; but, witht the same tweaks from 2k7's version, it becomes fun again.
College Hoops 2K8: Graphically the beaut of NBA 2K8 (even with the generic player models that college games must use, due to licensing reasons), but with the same nag as the College Hoops 2K7, this is 1 for those that collect the series. It's still fun. Go DeJuan Blair (#45 - Pitt, from my hometown, my hood!!) ;)
The games still left untouched in my collection (at the moment) are:
Assassin's Creed
Half Life 2: The Orange Box
TimeShift
Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (although, I allowed a relative to play it while I watched)
With Burnout Paradise dropping this coming Tuesday (1/22/08), that'll go into the untouched list as well (for a brief moment! - LOL) As you know, this will be continued as I go thru my untouched games, & continue to add new games to it. Shouts to my dude Chris @ Bestbuy. He's the reason why I bought Assassin's Creed.
1/22/2008 Addendum: I just bought Burnout Paradise . . . .
