Burning Yule Blog

Hello! :)

This is my final blog entry of 2011. I intended to have more entries this year, but things have been a little on the thin side for me as far as time since Summer.

Oh well... what can you do?

:P

I would, however, very much like to take this time, at the ragged edge of the dying year, to send you all my honest wishes for a happy and safe holiday season - regardless of whatever holiday traditions or rituals that you observe.

So very many good things get their value crushed by language, politics, culture, and spiritual preferences, and I want to push all of those things aside to send you good will.

Have a great time, and be careful!

:D

Oh, and most importantly...

behave

Black Friday

Hello! :)

Here is an impossible mission for you -

Eat a bunch of food in ridiculous amounts...

and then get up early the next day to go out and shop like crazy.

:P

Holy cow.

Glad I didn't have to do that.

...oh wait.

The yummy irony is that all of my holiday gift shopping is done, yet I had to go out this morning to get actual things that I need.

No escape!

"When Black Friday comes

I'll stand down by the door

And catch the gray men

When they dive from the fourteenth floor

.

When Black Friday comes

I'll collect everything I'm owed

And before my friends find out

I'll be on the road

.

When Black Friday falls

You know it's got to be

Don't let it fall on me

.

When Black Friday comes

I'll fly down to Muswellbrook

Gonna strike all the big red words

From my little black book

.

Gonna do just what I please

Gonna wear no socks and shoes

With nothing to do

But feed all the kangaroos

.

When Black Friday comes

I'll be on that hill

You know I will

.

When Black Friday comes

I'm gonna dig myself a hole

Gonna lay down in it

'Til I satisfy my soul

.

Gonna let the world pass by me

The Archbishop's gonna sanctify me

And if he don't come across

I'm gonna let it roll

.

When Black Friday comes

I'm gonna stake my claim

I guess I'll change my name"

.

Be safe and have fun!

Gimme that old time religion

Hello! :D

I was not around here (or any of the net) at all during the last week and a half (or so) of October. Overload of "Octoberism" methinks...

.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is released this week.

:)

I have been following the progress of the Elder Scrolls series of games (and playing them) for quite a few years now, and I am very happy that Skyrim is finally coming out.

Also in my personal gaming as of late...

October was a great time for Zombie games!

I also dove into a bunch of "Living Dead/Infection" on Halo: Reach, which is always fun. I can still hear the voice of the Halo multiplayer announcer guy saying "New Zombie" ringing in my head. :P

Halo Anniversary is released next week. :)

Over Halloween weekend, Gears Of War 3 offered "Boom Snipes" in multiplayer - Team Deathmatch (maybe other types of games too, but I just played Team Deathmatch, so not sure) with the Boomshot (pretty much a grenade launcher/rocket launcher in the Gears games) and a sniper rifle. Seriously fun!

How did I do? heh heh, you don't really want to know.

.

Now October is over. :( blah

I really do wish that the time of year when Halloween is thought of would last a whole lot longer.

I hope you had a great Halloween!

Level 62

It seems that my level here has gone up again when I wasn't looking.

:P

Wow... 62...

Is that large? What is that?

Is the level name from one of the Devil May Cry games?

Why did they make the Devil May Cry games so hard?

Holy cow... between those games, and the Ninja Gaiden games, I am surprised that I didn't blow a blood vessel in my skull.

.

It's also quite cool outside here - a shameless 64 degrees F with gray skies and windy.

hmmm.... one would think it's October or something...

Insane Butcher Apron Fuzz

Just this side of being impared by being scared is a certain fascination that blooms in the hearts of those who might otherwise find that which is dark

...somewhat unappealing

Even so, seems an excellent time for melancholy regalia, so be off with you!

:P

Found a CD at a Halloween store today:

October!

Hello! :)

October (Halloweentime) is my favorite time of year. I enjoy the license that we give ourselves to have fun with creepy images and sounds, the way that the weather here is going through the change from Summer to Winter, and I very much enjoy the really unique and interesting history and folklore that surrounds this time of year.

Ghosts

:o

Graveyards

Games

:)

CANDY!

:P

.

Some people (:P) way back when said that this time of year is when the line between the world of the living and the world of the dead is very thin... even broken in spots.

What I like to remember most during this time (along with enjoying the darker, fun, and spooky aspects of the season) is that life is very short and very precious - for without life, there can be no death...

...and no ghosts, so hey.

Happy October to you!

The Baying of the Hounds

Hello! :)

Time for fun things, as it seems - for me, at least - has become something of a precious (if not altogether rare) commodity as of late. I am happy to have found some time to put down some words here.

In April of this year, my grandmother fell in her home. She was injured pretty badly, and it hit me very hard.

It's my grandma, for crying out loud.

My wife and I made the decision at that point to move to the city where my grandmother lives.

We had a rare opportunity to move into the condo unit right next door to my grandma, and we jumped on it quickly.

I didn't really have much understanding at that time what it meant, but I was bound and determined to do everything that I could to ensure that my grandmother would NEVER AGAIN find herself in a situation where she would be in physical or emotional danger.

Basically, we either made the move, or my grandma was heading to a facility... or worse.

Not gonna happen, Cap'n. You know?

So, my wife and I got things done very quickly, and got ourselves moved into our new residence. That was actually quite a task, and I think that it's good that the activity level was very high, so that there was no time to reflect (or understand) how difficult the task of moving was.

So hey, it's late September now, and maybe... just maybe... I can find stuff. :P

I spend my time making sure that my grandmother gets from point a to point b, doing household tasks for her, etc.

This leaves me with a whole lot less time for things that I took for granted, but it's still a bargain, you know?

Quite often, I find myself wondering exactly where the Hell I am, honestly - usually when I wake up.

Funny how history repeats itself.

So yeah, here I am, back once again in my old hometown - round about Halloweentime, no less, and that rules hard.

Most importantly, no one is going to go to their grave without me doing everything that I can to be a force for positive change and protection.

.

In the midst of all this, I have managed to play the living daylights out of Halo: Reach, and put a great end to my obsession with this game (in earnest) by putting in many hours playing (where I could find them), getting my level pretty high up there, and making enough in-game credits to grab the "Pestilence" armor - the Pestilence armor effect is something that looks like these sickly greenish-brownish clouds and insects flying around, with some nasty looking goo occasionally dripping out. Basically awesome. :P

With Gears of War 3 being released last week, that was the end of my Halo: Reach fetish, but wow, what a trade-off!

I very much enjoy Gears of War 3, and I can tell that I will be playing this game like crazy. I got the "Limited Edition" version - which has a very cool collectible case with some neat extras included. I have played the single player campaign through (Normal difficulty) once in entirety, grabbed all of the campaign collectibles, and played a few multiplayer matches. I give the game a big thumbs up. :D

Skyrim and Halo: Anniversary loom on my personal gaming horizon, and I am very much looking forward to both of these games. I have these two titles on reserve, and I will be grabbing them on day one of their release.

I also snatched the new Opeth album (Heritage).

So yes, I am still hanging tough with my personal entertainment choices in the face of having a lot less time to enjoy them.

.

If anyone ever says the words "Truth is stranger than fiction"... holy cow, you had better believe them.

:)

Talk to you soon!
