If you just want to be able to hear where people are and don't care about much else, get the AX 720's.Ghost_702
The AX 720's have two 40mm drivers and are no better at reproducing surround sound than any other two-channel headphone or headset. The AX 720 includes a processor that reproduces the Dolby Headphone effect which can, in essence, be produced on any headphone if you have the right processor.
If you want the Dolby Headphone effect, consider purchasing the Ear Force DSS or Astro Mixamp, which will both allow you the same effect while affording you the luxury of a wide array of traditional headphones.
Read the Headphone FAQ at the top of this forum and come back with any questions you might have. There are both headset recommendations and detailed descriptions of the various options available to you in that thread.
Last I knew the Dell UltraSharp U2711 was still pretty much the gold standard in consumer monitors. This is outside my realm of expertise, but it comes up frequently, and while there might be slightly better monitors out there, you'd be hard-pressed to find any complaints about the U2711.
I think it's great that more companies are trying to emulate the surround sound experience using headphones, and I would urge users not to pass judgment on a product that hasn't even been released. It's designed for video games and movies, so I wouldn't expect them to perform anything like the AKG K702s, and that is neither a good nor bad thing. Too often quality is confused with performance.
The Tritton AX Pros are one of the only "real" retail surround sound headphones that use discrete drivers of this design (the only ones widely available, anyway), but they are 5.1, not 7.1. They use a different driver design and positioning, as well (see picture). By comparison the Tiamat's drivers are HUGE; a 40mm driver is usually all you see in even the biggest headphones, so it'll be interesting to see how heavy these are, though I expect some serious kick for bassheads. Thanks for the heads-up.
I'm wanting to get this set. It's only $50.88 on Walmart.com so I'm saving $10 from buying direct from the TB website or buying from the physical Best Buy Store. Does anyone here have these? I've been reading that they're a good introductory headset. Has anyone had this headset and are they good for the price?

Most of it is in working condition just that the right ear broke off and hangs loose while still connected by the wire. I'm gonna glue it as tape stops working fairly quickly, can you think of any glues that would damage the wire and stop it from working? I just wanna know if there are any types of glue I should avoid.Sothe422
First, use an epoxy and clamp your contact surfaces together for at least 24 hours. Second, so long as the cable has not been severed - meaning the cord was never cut in two - you should be okay from a wiring standpoint. If you've got enough room wrap the exposed wiring in electrical tape before you epoxy the headset together, but glue by itself will not prevent a circuit from closing in this situation. Good luck, Boz
