Three things come into play when it comes to EA and why they should pack their bags and make some other things get screwed up. And those things are greed, greed and greed.
Three different greed's. Money greed, mass-greed and popularity greed.
How are they achieving these greeds? Simply put: Their overpriced articles on the Xbox Marketplace, and refusing to make something free at any time. They're buying any licence for a series of games, and now even buying companies right at the point when they are going to hit the jackpot with two games. They're making massive communities with every game they produce, and with massive, I mean just too large.
I learned with NFS Carbon that buying the pay-for-cheating options is only making them more greedy. Hence, the fact that nothing of their stock on ANY game has become free up to this date. The only game made by EA, Command and Conquer 3 has free content on the consoles. Which, is a single crappy map. I understand that if you should pay for this, a riot is just waiting for the door.
Some developers have become very generous nowadays. The game The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion(developed by Bethesda/2K), which featured four DLC packs that rised many complaints. Now, they've given us a free download for a limited time. Something that is alot better than any of the Premium-content. Bethesda learned.
Many other developers realise that by the time the game becomes older and older, and the final DLC packs reach the Marketplace, it should become free. For a few reasons like generousity, showing that they care for the players without the privilegé to buy Microsoft Points and just plain gaining a bit of popularity. What can do that better than free stuff on a pay-for-all market?
No, the CEO's at Electronic Arts still havn't learned. If it's free, expect no worthy DLC. That's why they should be whiped off the face of the earth, the price of fun rises by the day thanks to EA. I still have two more reasons. Property-greed and Popularity greed.
The other day, EA purchased both Bioware and Pandemedic Studios for 860MIL US$. Bioware was making Mass Effect, a highly anticipated RPG, coming this November. Now, they've purchased all rights, and now have ownership to just about any Bioware product. Hence, the highly anticipated part. This is a smart strategy, it's sure that Mass Effect will sell like crazy.
And, ofcourse. Buying the rights of anything will net EA a crapload of money by November 20th, this year. The same story counts for Mercenaries 2: World in Flames, from Pandemedic. I'll bet fifty bucks on BioWare being renamed to "EA Edmonton" and Pandemedic to "EA Santa Monica". Electronic Arts' playing a strategic front of Monopoly here...
EA's known for screwing just about any licence up they've purchased. Including the C&C series. Which is what many C&C fans call "It's good, but it could've been so much better. They just didn't gave it a chance.". Okay, with Mass Effect and Mercenaries 2: World in Flames, we should'nt have to worry. Mass Effect is now in it's finishing stage, and ready for being sold this November. M2: WIF ships in this January. Seems EXTREMELY late to screw it over. So, therefor no worries.
But, what about the future?
