I'll continue those Best of '07 things within the next blog. Which for you capitalists out there; It's The Orange BoxTM at #3, Halo 3® at #2 and BioShock at #1. Anyway, deal with the fact that I say Halo 3 is NOT the best game of 2K7, want more on it? That'll be in the next blog, cause just like any other Forza Motorsport 2 player, who is desperate for new tracks. I'm pretty much pissed off.
Just a few hours ago, the interview between GameSpot editor whoever-the-hell he is, and Forza Motorsport 2 lead designer Dan Greenawalt. It was all dedicated to that long awaited DLC; A track pack. Well, call it a liberal facist way to gain money in such an obvious way. Man I'm getting political. But it's either violating the TOC, and with the recent rank up for Thorpe89, congratulations by the way, I think it's wiser to pull in the political blather.
Either way, that selfsentric act of money making is really over the top. They're charging 600 MS PTS. Which equals 7.50$. That's a single track, a real life track called "Twin Ring Motegi". Four editions rise from that track, a full TRM, western Half, eastern half and NASCAR oval.
Many already noticed that the brush kit, and elemental layout kit used for the decorations and lighting effects has been jacked from the Test-Track routes. So, incase you havn't noticed Greenawalt overly exaggerating at that one point, hereby a quote:
"First, some backstory... It's much faster for our car team to turn around a car pack than for the track team to create a new environment. Environments take upwards of 3 to 5 months to build. Basically, because of the level of detail, building environments in v2 take four times longer than in the original Forza. Meanwhile, the fans were beating down our doors for some DLC tracks... " - Dan Greenawalt.
Man, thatdude is full of crap. Sorry, Danny my friend. But after I read YOUR section in the Forza Motorsport 2 LE Booklet, my IQ already dropped to the point that I have the IQ of a lima bean. I distrinctivly thought that Dan was one of those "Creative" dudes. Saying that he has on his mind. Not on his paycheck. Well, it only took one game to make his ego expand to the size of "Ah, hell it's a lot of work. Therefor, we snatch half of the Test Track's brush layouts, print a few Motegi maps from Wikipedia and start moddeling. Then, we specifically ask the money bags theirselfs over at MSG in Washington DC, on what to charge for this recycled map."
I honestly appreciate the hard work they do to give us tracks. But man, they can pull some loooong strings. They went down 12 tracks since Forza Motorsport. As a sequel, points that are critized are ment to be upgraded, polished and become better. Forza Motorsport 2, took another road... They took an U-turn, and went back to the graphical studios.
I'll tell you on how many tracks were missing out: Road America. Blue Mountains Raceway I & II, Alpine Ring, New York City Circuit(Long), Rio De Janeiro, Pacific Shipyards(The one of two NIGHT tracks), Tokio, Test Track Drag Strip and Test Track Oval. Even tough, I added a Point-to-Point race in that list, which is Pacific Shipyards. But was worth a mention, along with Tokio, they were the only night tracks.
Recycling tracks is what they do eh? Then why not IMPROVING already-made layouts? That MIGHT save time? Oh, is this too much of an obvious question, but requesting 600 MSPTS for a track pack... Just when the game feels INCREDIBLY empty? I spy a conspiracy.
Lacking tracks + Value cutdown of nearly 15 hours thanks to lacking tracks + 5 month delay between release and Track DLC + Asking 600 PTS = True FM2 players looking for some action in a nearly dead soul, they're litterally hauling the bags of cash in.
Hell, I know how much trouble it takes to create a track. But skipping on recycling the beloved maps, basicly revamping Test Track with a different route and advertising, asking 600PTS in the very end and still maintaining that "Oh yeah, dude we did one heck of a job... Yes, my fingers ache." attitude. That, and the overly steep price of the DLC - That goes beyond scamming.
Damn, Electronic Arts' "Pay-to-Cheat" options... They're nothing compared to this lame, and incredibly low action of leeching. I tell you, I'm one pissed off dude.
