Women of the gaming community, what kind of games do you like to play?
I am an avid player of video games. I have been a fan since the Sega Genesis (oh how I loved Streets of Rage), I have a Wii, a DS Lite, I just recently built a desktop computer and I have a laptop, I love strategy games like Age of Empires and Civilization and simulations like the Sims. I'm currently majoring in Computer Engineering Technology with a minor in English. I wanted to get all of my background information out of the way because I am asking for your help. I'm writing a research paper for my English ****about girls in the video gaming community. I would appreciate it if I could hear from some of my fellow girl gamers on the state of the industry as it relates to girls or possibly some of the gender issues that you feel are present. All input would be greatly appreciated and I plan to use this topic as a reference in my paper. Do you feel like there are stereotypes set in place when it comes to girl gamers? Would you say that girl gamers do not receive the proper amount of respect as a hard core player of video games. If so do you feel like this thinking is justifiable.
Once again, any input you have on the matter is greatly appreciated. What are your thoughts about Girls and Video Games. To the girl gamers, what types of games are you typically interested in? How often do you play? How did you become interested in video games? What would you say are some of your major issues with the video game community?
Thanks in advance for any input offered.
I can't wait for Rune Factory, I just hoped it isn't delayed again. I'll probably get Heroes of Mana later.
Ok so I see sob stories posted on here all the time so I figured why not share mine?
Allright, so I've had my DS for about a year now, about 8 months ago I gave the old bulky one to my little sister and I bought a black ds lite. So anyway I had about ten games or so on it that I carried around in my ds carrying case which I normally kept in my purse or attached to my purse. And I ALWAYS keep my purse with me, I can't live without it. So about three months ago I finally got enough money to buy a nice laptop, its a gateway for those who care to know, I take it with me everywhere, I'm a real techno junkie, I have gadgets everwhere. So anyway back to the matter at hand, it seems that once I got my laptop I became kind of careless with my ds case, mind you I'd taken the ds out of the case and put it in my purse after using it. For about a week all I could think about was my new laptop and setting it up with all the programs I wanted it to have and all of that. One day I happened to look up and I realized that my ds case was missing, I had the DS of course, but the case with about 10 games in it was missing. I looked all over my house to no avail. I came to the conclusion that I had to have laid it down on my desk at work and some lowlife took it, I'm the youngest person at my job (18), everyone else is well over 20, so I imagine that they gave them away to some kids or pawned them for some extra cash or something. I could have also lost them on campus but I've never played my DS on campus so I never had a reason to take it out of my purse. So it had to have been stolen at work. Mind you I'm not blaming anyone but myself. You can't expect people to be honest it seems, I just should have paid more attention to my things, but I was so excited about having this laptop until that was pretty much all I was thinking of at the time. And it's terrible because I still have all the game cases at home, they look new and shiny and there are no games inside of them, I get mad just thinking about it, 10 WHOLE GAMES!!!!!!!
So there's my sob story, just figured I would share with you all.
