I'm Out

Well this is something I didn't expect to come now, but yeah I'm leaving Gamespot. Why? Well here's why:

1. Appearently Gamespot is getting rid of Unions. So screw 'em for that/

2. As I've said before, I've gotten into acting recently, and since I'm starting my senior year of Highschool it's going to be taking up pretty much all of my time.

3. There's not much to say anymore, everyone's been leaving the unions I'm in, so there's only like 4-5 people active in one union.

I'll still come on here to rate games, and I MIGHT still be able to podcast with The Critical Path, but that's a big maybe. Either way, I'm not sure what else to say, so here's this:

Thing.

I'm gonna blog about stuff

Here's a blog about stuff.

Super Smash Bros. For Wii U/3DS (That's a stupid name) will lack cutscenes:

Hey Remember The Subspace Emissary? Wasn't that fun and one of the best parts of Brawl? Well it and, well any story mode is being taken out of Watered Down Brawl for Screen Gamepad and 3DS. But don't worry, the adventure mode from Melee that totally wasn't only good for a 2001 game is still going to be in it. Joy. So for what reason did this happen? It's happening because people watched the cutscenes on Youtube, those bastards. How. How did anyone sit down a say " Wow this video showing all the cutscenes in my game got 23k views. Compare that to the 9 Million units we sold, I say that people are just being ungrateful. Plus some people said they didn't like the story mode in my game, so instead of improving it, or something silly like that, I'll just take it out."I'm not going to say Sakurai is stupid or anything like that, but this is a very poor decision. Honestly if this is the way Nintendo keeps doing stuff like this, I won't be getting a Wii U. I'll still probably get a 3DS though.

Moving on to a different subject, I decided to take Sakurai's advice and watch all of a game's cutscene's on youtube, which brings me to:

The Last of Us (Please let it be)

I honestly don't see the hype for this. I only got through about One Hour and Six minutes of it before I decided to stop watching. I kept hearing so many good things about it, but all I saw was something that I personally thought was boring and did several cliches (Zombies, Guy and young girl in a ruined world, Guy and Girl hate each other at first but learn to love each other over time, Rebel group fighting against government, Nolan North, etc.) poorly. I also found Joel and Ellie to be extremely annoying. Gameplay wise it seems like most of the time you just run away and press Triangle every now and then, with occasional combat. So, is there something I'm missing here or....what? I would like for someone who has finished this game to give me their opinion so that I might see the appeal here. Again, all of this coming from someone who just watched some of the cutscenes on Youtube, but still.

Grand Theft Auto V Trailer:

I usually don't like Grand Theft Auto games at all, but I'd just like to say after seeing that gameplay trailer I really think GTAV might be one of the best games we'll see this gen.

Game of Thrones:

I started watching this show recently and despite knowing all the character deaths up to Season 3, I must say that Game of Thrones is quite entertaining. Don't care for a few parts of it, but it's still worth checking out if you haven't done so yet.

The Walking Dead (Comics):

Hype.

The Walking Dead (Game):

Hype.

The Walking Dead (Show):

Don't watch this show it's very mediocre.

Acting:

So I've gotten into acting recently and it's going to be taking up some of my time so I may be more inactive than usual.

Aquaman: The Movie:

Speaking of acting some of my friends and I have decided to make Aquaman: The Movie. Coming to Youtube.com some time after we're done filming and editing.

So that's pretty much it. I'm now going to be #Edgy and post a picture of everone's favorite superhero, Zimmer Man.

The Last of Us Review

So I recently got this game on my Sega Dreamcast, and I must say I'm suprised of the lack of Quick-time Events in The Last of Us. There is also a lack of Ben Paul from The Walking Dead, so that's pretty negative. On the bright side it has zombies and pretty cool graphics, so it's pretty much the Citizen Kane of gaming.

My 2012 Game of the Year Awards

Hello and Welcome to my 3rd annual Game of the Year Awards. I honestly don't have much else to say, so let's get started. :P

Best Looking game:

Mass Effect 3
Spec Ops: The Line
Resident Evil 6
Assassin's Creed III
Far Cry 3

Runner-Up: Resident Evil 6
Winner: Mass Effect 3

....It just looks great, not much else to say.

Best Cast:

Mass Effect 3
Street Fighter X Tekken
The Walking Dead
Spec Ops: The Line
Far Cry 3

Runner-Up: Far Cry 3
Winner: The Walking Dead

Pretty much every character in this game was lovable and memorable, except for Travis, who thankfully didn't live long. (and that's not much of spoiler, he's only in the game for 2 minutes or less)

Best Story:

Mass Effect 3
The Walking Dead
Spec Ops: The Line
Assassin's Creed III
Far Cry 3

Runner-Up: Spec Ops: The Line
Winner: The Walking Dead

I would much rather have you experiance the story yourself, so all I'll say is that The Walking Dead might just have the best story, ever. (For the record I have not yet played To The Moon)

Best Voice Acting:

Mass Effect 3
The Walking Dead
Max Payne 3
Spec Ops: The Line
Resident Evil 6

Runner-Up: Max Payne 3
Winner: The Walking Dead

Best Voice Actor/Actress:

James McCaffrey - Max Payne (Max Payne 3)
Dave Fennoy - Lee Everett (The Walking Dead)
Melissa Hutchison - Clementine (The Walking Dead)
Gavin Hammon - Kenny (The Walking Dead)
Michael Mando - Vaas (Far Cry 3)

Runner-Up: Gavin Hammon - Kenny (The Walking Dead)
Winner: Michael Mando - Vaas (Far Cry 3)

Best Trailer:

Mass Effect 3 Launch Trailer
Mann vs Machine Trailer
Meet the Pyro Trailer
Take Earth Back Trailer
The Walking Dead Episode 5 Trailer

Runner-Up: Mann vs. Machine Trailer
Winner: Mass Effect 3 Launch Trailer

Funniest Game:

Mass Effect 3
Kinect Star Wars
The Walking Dead
Max Payne 3
Far Cry 3

Runner-Up: Mass Effect 3
Winner: Kinect Star Wars

This.

Most Depressing Game:

Mass Effect 3
The Walking Dead
Max Payne 3
Spec Ops: The Line
Dishonored

Runner-Up: The Walking Dead
Winner: Spec Ops: The Line

While The Walking Dead and Mass Effect 3 both had tons of sad moments, all of those moments can't compare to just ONE scene in Spec Ops: The Line. So what is this scene? Well I went into cover, getting ready to shoot some enimies, but then they started talking, so like I do with every game I just waited for them to finish speaking just in case they provided some interesting dialoge. What did they provide? A normal Conversation. It hit me then, I was just killing normal people. I wasn't killing an evil terrorist organizatio or zombies, I was killing fellow human beigns, Husbands, sons, fathers. It's scenes like this that make Spec Ops: The Line a fantastic game, but also a depressing one.

Most addictive Game:

Soul Calibur V
Mass Effect 3
The Walking Dead
XCOM: Enemy Unknown
Far Cry 3

Runner-Up: The Walking Dead
Winner: XCOM: Enemy Unknown

Best Box Art(aka: the most useless award):

Soulcalibur V
Mass Effect 3
The Amazing Spider-Man
Dishonored
Halo 4

Runner-Up: Soul Calibur V
Winner: Dishonored

Best Controls:

The Darkness II
Dishonored
XCOM: Enemy Unknown
Far Cry 3
Hitman: Absolution

Runner-Up: The Darkness II
Winner: XCOM: Enemy Unknown

Best New Character:

Lee Everett (The Walking Dead)
Molly (The Walking Dead)
Clementine (The Walking Dead)
Martin Walker (Spec Ops: The Line)
Vaas (Far Cry 3)

Runner-Up: Vaas (Far Cry 3)
Winner: Lee Everett (The Walking Dead)

Best Hero:

Commander Shepard (Mass Effect 3)
Lee Everett (The Walking Dead)
Kenny (The Walking Dead)
Max Payne (Max Payne 3)
Corvo Attano (Dishonored)

Runner-Up: Commander Shepard
Winner: Max Payne

What makes Max Payne such a great Hero to me is that he really doesn't care for any of the people he's protecting, but he still does his best to save them. And he doesn't do it for the money, he just does it because he's that great of a guy.

Best Villain:

The Illusive Man (Mass Effect 3)
Campman (The Walking Dead)
Vaas (Far Cry 3)
Hoyt (Far Cry 3)
Blake Dexter (Hitman: Absolution)

Runner-Up: The Illusive Man
Winner: Hoyt

Best Soundtrack:

Mass Effect 3
The Walking Dead
Max Payne 3
Dishonored
Assassin's Creed III

Runner-Up: Mass Effect 3
Winner: The Walking Dead

Biggest Surprise:

The Darkness II
The Walking Dead
Spec Ops: The Line
XCOM: Enemy Unknown
Assassin's Creed III

Runner-Up: XCOM: Enemy Unknown
Winner: Assassin's Creed III

To be honest, I thought AC3 was going to be a rubbish game. It looked just like the past few ACs, the sea battles looked boring, the combat looked dull, but it actually did pretty well. Except for the combat, that was really bad.

Best Boss Fights:

Mass Effect 3
Dragon's Dogma
The Amazing Spider-Man
XCOM: Enemy Unknown
Far Cry 3

Runner-Up: Far Cry 3
Winner: XCOM: Enemy Unknown

Most Memorable Moment:

Curing the Genophage (Mass Effect 3)
Kenny's Redemption (The Walking Dead)
Fighting through the Horde (The Walking Dead)
The Opening (Assassin's Creed III)
The fight of the Warrior (Far Cry 3)

Runner-Up: Kenny's Redemption (The Walking Dead)
Winner: Curing the Genophage (Mass Effect 3)

Can't really say, because spoilers, but just know that these two scenes were some of the best scenes in any game.

Best Writing:

The Walking Dead
Max Payne 3
Spec Ops: The Line
Assassin's Creed III
Far Cry 3

Runner-Up: The Walking Dead
Winner: Spec Ops: The Line

Best Atmosphere:

Spec Ops: The Line
Dishonored
Assassin's Creed III
Hitman Absolution
Far Cry 3

Runner-Up: Assassin's Creed III
Winner: Far Cry 3

Best Action/Adventure Game:

Mass Effect 3
Max Payne 3
Spec Ops: The Line
Dishonored
Assassin's Creed III

Runner-Up: Assassin's Creed III
Winner: Max Payne 3

Best Shooting in a Game:

The Darkness II
Mass Effect 3
Max Payne 3
Spec Ops: The Line
Far Cry 3

Runner-Up: Mass Effect 3
Winner: Far Cry 3

Best Fighting Game:

Soul Calibur V
Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale

Runner-Up: Soul Calibur V
Winner: Soul Calibur V

Playstation all-Stars for Game of the Year.

Best Multiplayer/Online Play:

Soulcalibur V
Mass Effect 3
Max Payne 3
Resident Evil 6
Hitman Absolution

Runner-Up: Resident Evil 6
Winner: Hitman Absolution

A somewhat odd choice, I know. Usually when you think of Online Play, you either think of a Deathmacth like thing, co-op, or horde mode. Absolution is none of these. For those who don't know what the online play is like, basicly, you can place hits on anyone in the game, and then another player might take that contract and kill the characters you placed hits on.

Best Level Design:

Spec Ops: The Line
Dishonored
XCOM: Enemy Unknown
Hitman Absolution
Far Cry 3

Runner-Up: XCOM: Enemy Unknown
Winner: Dishonored

Best The Walking Dead Episode:

Episode 1
Episode 2
Episode 3
Episode 4
Episode 5

Runner-Up: Episode 5
Winner: Episode 2

Most disappointing Game:

Street Fighter X Tekken
Prototype 2
Borderlands 2
Resident Evil 6
Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale

Runner-Up: Resident Evil 6
Winner: Borderlands 2

Borderlands 2 is just a copy and paste game. Well, actually not. Gearbox took out everythign funny in the first Borderlands, and replaced them with *sigh* Meme jokes.

Worst Character:

Patroklos (Soul Calibur V)
Pyrrha (Soul Calibur V)
James Vega (Mass Effect 3)
Travis (The Walking Dead)
Citra (Far Cry 3)

Runner-Up: Pyrrha
Winner: James Vega

Worst Game:

Syndicate
Street Fighter X Tekken
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City
Borderlands 2

Call of Duty: Black Ops II

Runner-Up: Street Fighter X Tekken
Winner: Syndicate

Bland co-op, horrible controls, ugly graphics and animation, horrid voice acting, and quite possibly the worst single player campaign ever. Syndicate is truly a representation of what EA is.

Most looked Forward too 2013 Game:

Watchdogs
Tomb Raider
Beyond: Two Souls
BioShock Infinite
Metro: Last Light

Runner-Up: Beyond: Two Souls
Winner: Tomb Raider

Game of the Year:

Soul Calibur V
Mass Effect 3
The Walking Dead
Max Payne 3
Spec Ops: The Line
Dishonored
XCOM: Enemy Unknown
Assassin's Creed 3
Hitman Absolution
Far Cry 3

5th Place: Spec Ops: The Line

An emotion-stringing, well-written game. Spec Ops is an exceptional game.

4th Place: Dishonored

It controls great, has amazing level design, looks great, and is just plain fun to play. The only problem I had with it was it's ending.

3rd Place: The Walking Dead

With all the awards I've given it, I would assume that most of you thought I would give it the GotY award, but I can't, because it's more of an interactive experience than a game. But still, it's an amazing interactive experience. The Walking Dead raises the bar in storytelling, character development, choice making, and replay value.

Runner-Up: Far Cry 3

You can get in a Jeep and run over pirates and Komodo Dragons. Enough said.

Game of the Year: XCOM: Enemy Unknown

XCOM is a game I haven't seen in a loooooooooooooong time. It has no super strong emotional story, no characters that can grow on you, it doesn't look that great, and still it's one of the best games I've ever played. It really reminded me of how older games are, in the sense that you're just supposed to have fun, and I feel like that is the whole purpose of gaming.

Welp that's it for this year, so I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy Flag Day!....er I mean Hallo-New Year. That's it.
