Gridiron Gang

Hollywood has always loved tales of redemption -- the poor, downtrodden or otherwise disenfranchised finding their true value with the help of an inspirational mentor. Sometimes the formula works. Unfortunately in "Gridiron Gang," Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is about as inspirational as a yawn. A true story, based on an award-winning documentary, about inner city kids in juvenile detention who come together to forge a winning football team, is great material, but the film never catches fire. With rabid interest in the new football season and a major marketing blitz by Sony, the film could score a few early touchdowns in its first weekend but should tail off quickly after that. Johnson plays Sean Porter, a dedicated probation officer at Camp Kilpatrick, the last stop for teenage gang members and violent offenders before the state locks them up with adults. Frustrated by the frequency with which the kids return to the camp after being released, he imagines that by creating a football team he can instill discipline and a sense of self-worth in his charges. In other words, he's a man on a mission, and he's got plenty of work to do.
Crossover

Tech (Anthony Mackie) works in the mall, studies for his G.E.D., hustles money at the basketball court, and plays "street basketball" under the direction of Vaughn (Wayne Brady). The losing team gets $1000 each, the winners get $2000, the high-rollers get to place bets and see some X-treme b-ball, with every basket a dunk and only "flagrant fouls" prohibited. Tech's best friend is Noah Cruise (Wesley Jonathan, "Sweetness" in Roll Bounce), planning to go to college on a basketball scholarship, and then to med school. He will lose his eligibilty for the scholarship if he plays for money. But Tech, remininding Cruise that "you owe me," persuades him to join the team, Enemy of the State" for one game. They lose to the champions, led by the arrogant Jewelz (Philip Champion). Tech and Cruise meet two girls, Eboni and Vanessa and quickly become involved. They bring the girls with them to LA for Cruise's college orientation and Tech's chance to shoot hoops in a television commercial. But things begin to go badly, and by the time one final streetball game against Jewelz' team a great deal is depending on the final score. There are a couple of good ideas here. An early shot shows girls seated at computer terminals managing the betting line in an understated parallel to the many similar set-ups in movies about drug dealers. It's nice to see the portrayal of a character whose highest aspiration is not an NBA contract. And the cast does its best with what it has, especially Jonathan and Lil JJ as Tech's young friend Up.
Hitch

So you want to know how to talk to someone? You know that you are not the most attractive person, and things dont always go your way. What do you do? Go see a Date Doctor. Okay, Hitch gave good advice, but his advice did not win the ladies over. What attracted the ladies was just the opposite....how about that. Makes you think of what a person is really looking for.....The thing that went wrong with the Date Doctors Advice was that he really did not know the other person... Yes he gave good advice but it just did not work out for his clients or hisself in the end......
My Favorite parts in the movie....
1. Hitch is allergic to shell fish...face blows up so big....and he still gets the girl after all that.
2. The speed date.....
3. Albert cant dance, Hitch tells him not to, but he cant help himself...
4.Albert, oh that man was just clumsy but Allegrea like that about him and he got the girl....to all disbelif.
Remember The Titans

More a lesson on race relations than prep-school pigskin tactics, these Titans put points on the board in every way possible. Denzel Washington (who has tackled racism before in extraordinary films like Glory, Malcolm X and The Hurricane) is his usual solid self as a high school football coach thrown into a no-win situation when he replaces a just-desegregated Virginia school's popular white coach. Out-finessing Denzel on the sidelines is Will Patton's subtle but powerful performance as the displaced white coach who becomes a better man because of the situation. The football scenes are first rate, and defensive captain Ryan Hurst proves he can break hearts as easily as a quarterback's plays. This is one football flick that scores on and off the field.
The Longest Yard

I think that this movie was the best sports movie I have seen in a long time except for the movie Remember the Titans. This movie was really cool and I liked it because it was funny and since I play football I liked the fact of how hard they were hitting each other come the game-day (Pros vs. Cons). I think that they could have made this movie better though by taking some of the cursing out. One other thing that I really like was the music that they played in this movie.
