For starters, I am sorry for posting in the wrong area twice. I just searched "hardware" and clicked thef first thing that came up, so if you've seen my other posts this is the same question in the right place--finally.

I'm buying a new computer for college. A gaming laptop. My limit is about $2,000 and I really fancy the Asus G1 but would also consider buying the Asus G2, though it seems like not that much more for another $200. So, my question is this: can I buy a Asus G1 and upgrade the existing video card, a GeForce G8600M GT 256MB, with a nVidia GeForce 7950 GTX 512MB. I have heard that only 17' models are able to fit it into their chasis and the G1 has a 15.4' while the G2 has a 17'. Any help in this area would be a great help. Thank you

I hear that the 7950 GTX is only compatible with 17' models of laptops. I intend to buy a Asus G1 and I was wondering if I should buy that instead of the G2, which I am not as much a fan of, and upgrade it to 7950? Any input in this area would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I know that the G1 is a 15 inch laptop, but I was wondering if it is possible to stick a 7950 inside it. I have looked all over the internet for an answer and it claims that only 17 inch models (so the G2) would be able to fit it in. I'm not a huge fan of the G2 but if anyone knows and can help that would be very greatly appreciated. Thank you.

If you have a friend that has it, borrow one from him (pehaps indefinitely) and play that for awhile and see if you like it. One poster had a good point though, all three are on the Classics pricetag which means they'll all be around $10 - $20 each. It's not a bad deal and certainly worth your time.

That's interesting because I only really remember two things about Oregon Trail and that's throwing my keyboard against the wall after my third character died from something stupid like dysentery or anal warts or purposely designing a team of people I hate and sending them out to die in the fields.

In a way, I guess it was like the first Grand Theft Auto (Wagon?) for me.

Sometimes, on my Win95 laptop that I've been trying to restore a bit, I'll load up an old Commander Keen game. Now that's some side-scrolling action fun. Even more rarely, I'll put in a Roger Wilco adventure game in there, but I could never beat that game.

On the Playstation I still play Xenogears and Final Fantasy VII, but I've been working my way through some of the old Final Fantasies on my old NES. I bought one and two at this used games store around here for $4!

I think for most of us, we don't play game necessarily because they were as good as we make them out to be, it's for the feelings that we felt back then. Makes me wonder what kind of games my brothers will play...Grand Theft Auto? Bully? I'll pity the day when Bioshock or Crysis becomes "old school."

Granted I do not own a PS3--though I do want one--but I have been a Playstation loyal since the mid 90's. It was the system that brought me a 3D Final Fantasy, Xenogears, and many well-held childhood memories. However, Sony seems to be forgetting what made the Playstation a hit in the first place: an army of exclusive, well-made, widespread games. This is what eventually helped kill the Saturn, Sony was smart to license over 300 developers (someone correct me on this but I'm sure it's around here) to help them make their system a success--and what is a console without its game?

The goal of a developer is not only to make a good game, though many do take pride in making a good game, but primarily in making money. Money brings us new games and feeds the developing machine and the cycles goes on. The Wii alone has sold more units in February that the PS3 and 360 combined, for instance. Obviously, with such a wide market to feed developers should be flocking to put out games for an already successful and well-recieved system. Afterall, I still see PS3's in stacks at my local BestBuy.

The simple fact is that the gaming population, which has seen a shift from younger to older in recent years, is still primarily funded by mothers and fathers for children and teens. I know my own mother would have never purchased a $600 gaming machine when I was young and I could never have saved enough for it. The Wii, and even the 360 for instance, are much more accessable than the PS3 to a market that is in need and ready to purchase games for their newly-acquired system.

I think at the end of the next-gen race, we will see a fall in Sony's exclusive games to a more multi-platform spectrum. Already we're seeing this shift, and I'm sure more are to follow unless Sony is able to get their act together and start thinking smarter and not with their numbnuts.

Okami, Shadow of the Colossus and Ico all floored me at the time. Still do really...

I don't know what your "groove zone" is with RPG's but some I've found to be particularly interesting are the Kingdom Hearts series and anything by Level5 like Dragon Quest VIII or Rogue Galaxy. If you like SCI-FI more than fantasy I would go with Xenosaga for sure and then maybe a Star Ocean in there. If you like Fantasy a bit more than stick with the goods and go Dragon Quest or even Valkyrie Profile 2 as stated before.
