What? No! Are you blind or something? Did you not see all of the other replies? Unless you already payed for live for another account, you'll just have to use that one to play online. You'll still have your other account with all of your achievements as long as you don't delete it. Now, if you get achievements on your new account (the one that has live) you won't be able to merge your new one and your old one, which means you'll have to make a decision when your live subscription runs out as to which one you want to buy live for (your original with the achievements you have gotten, or you new live one with whichever achievements you get in the future). Understand?

Not blind, just already played for live on the other account ;) But I suppose I can just use my old account for offline play and then transition when the subscription runs out.

I had that same problem

I got a 360 and a month later decided to get live. Had 3k gamerscore and had to delete it :(

I dont think there is anything to avoid it. I was able to copy paste game data from a couple games to get some old achievements but not many games do that.

All right, thanks for the helpful reply. I wasn't logged into my profile so when it said to put in a name for live I didn't realize it created a new tag. I guess I'll just have to replay GTA IV at some point. Thank god I hadn't actually gone all the way to 100% completion like I was planning to.

All right, so I got a 360 a couple months ago, beat some games, got some achievements. Now I've decided to try out live so I've set up an account without realizing that it creates a new gamertag without all my previous achievements. Is there any way for me to save my old achievements or am I hooped?

I was looking at this site but since it says: "It is only for Xbox 360 users who have built up achievements in offline play and who created a gamer card at Xbox.com before joining Xbox Live" I don't know that it applies to my situation.
