It's that time again: games I'm avoiding....

The games that are on my radar that I am avoiding. A saying goes "there is a sucker born every minute" and I have a feeling that if I buy any of the games that are on this list that could very well apply to me:

f.e.a.r. 2: project orgin

dead space

mortal kombat vs. dc

afro samurai

skate 2

dynasty warriors: gundam 2

50 cent: blood in the sand

wanted: weapons of fate

operation flashpoint: dragon rising

wheelman

batman: arkham asylum

brutal legend

virtua tennis 2009

fuel

shellshock 2: blood trails

x blades

dragon age: origins

tom clancy's hawx

eat lead: the return of matt hazard

thats just a few of the games that I am going to avoid. I am sure I'll be adding more before this year is over. It really makes me just want to buy a Nintendo Wii for the Virtual Console and just enjoy the classics (ie: RETIRE)

The New Game Smell!

At last: Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection (PS3) is now in my um, collection. Yknow the first thing I did when I opened it: I did take a nice whiff of it and I wish I had an air freshner/car freshner that smelled just like THAT. Heck, if it came out as a cologne I'd wear it. Anyway, the SUGC is AWESOME! the trip down nostalgia lane is well worth the $21.00 (after a trade in of the Orange Box *yuck*) 40+ games you just can't beat it! and yes I went down the line from A-V but, the most important games of all are the Streets Of Rage games and just to play the first one after all this time I didn't know how to react. Familiar but, has it been THAT many years since I last played it. Really felt like seeing an old friend again. Now the 2nd one is my favorite of all of them and just listening to the soundtrack by Yuzo Koshiro was enough to send me into orbit of pure bliss! and the 3rd one is cool as well. I played a little bit of each game (work tomorrow so can't dedicate the time to it as I'd like) but, Mon night it's all mine.

I can only imagine what type of content will be on the Playstation Network for this game. My wish list would include Mutant League Football and Mutant League Hockey. I would also like to see Gunstar Heroes, Aladdin, Lion King, Mickey Mouse and The Castle Of Illusion, and Quackshot just to name a few (how these didn't make the final cut I'll never know) Outrun would be a nice addition as well. Well, if it's content I have to buy in the PSN Store or if they release a Vol 2 I'll be there with money for that one too (if I have a job by then)

SCORE! I also picked up Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots (again) yep, I had to sell it one time but, after my trip to Gamestop to pick up The Genesis Collection I had to go get it at Wal-Mart and to my suprise they actually had the game! it's fate I'm telling you. So, I'll go through the game (again) and finish it (again) but since I've only done this just one time it should be fun to do so again. Besides I heard some people have gone through it multiple times! outstanding! I'll also get online this time (since I didn't the first time I had this game) to see what that is all about.

Another note I bought the 20th Anniversary issue of Nintendo Power! for $10.00 you can walk down memory lane. It was my first video game magazine that I was dedicated to so it was a must buy. Besides the Super Nintendo (16-Bit) remains my favorite system of all time. I may just buy a Nintendo Wii just for the Virtual Console so I can play games like Contra III: The Alien Wars, The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past, Super Metroid, Final Fantasy III, and the list goes on. The Golden Era of Video Games right there and you can't put a price on nostalgia. I'll always love Nintendo!

So, it has been a good night and I'll say Thanks Be To God for it. I actually had a good night for a change! I suggest that if you don't own Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection I say hurry up and buy it! the value is TREMENDOUS! I'd like to say thank you Sega and Backbone Entertainment for putting together a fine package (not to mention adding Streets Of Rage 1,2,and 3 BONUS!!!) and like I said if there is a Volume 2, 3, 4, etc... I'll be there with $$$ for them!

Okay it's almost 1AM and I have to be up by 6AM (I'm too old to be staying up this late!) so thank you for reading and God Bless.

Something Old Something New PT II

Another day off and another day gone. Didn't do a whole lot. Got frustrated with The Orange Box (PS3) so I decided to get rid of it. I decided a first-person shooter with puzzle elements is not my thing (Half Life 2/Portal). Team Fortress 2 was a fun diversion but, that's all it was. I bought Kessen II and III last month and have now decided to start playing them. Kessen II (see review) is trash while Kessen III has been great so far.

Supposed to pick up Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection today. I'll probably go out and get it tonight (we'll see) I'm in no hurry it's not like I haven't played those games before! did get the pre-order on Resident Evil 5 (one of my MOST ANTICIPATED GAMES OF 2009) debating on Street Fighter IV (still) I'll get it eventually if I don't get it when it comes out.

Gotta pick the spots like I was talking about last blog. Of course I'll be getting God Of War III, Final Fantasy XIII, without hesitation. Just got to watch out for the HYPED games. It's a trap! I also have to stop spending $20.00 everytime I'm curious about a game (Ridge Racer 7, The Orange Box, etc...) because that's $20.00 towards a new game or gas in the tank of my car. Sorry honey OUR car. Besides, isn't that what GameFly is for?

What else is there? I am so bored with PS3 HOME it puts in tears! I haven't gone there in a bit. I might just go back when everything is NEW again. The first time I got there it was cool but, now not so much.

So, has anybody heard about what happend to my favorite game magazine of all time ELECTRONIC GAMING MONTHLY?! where is the new issue?! has anybody heard about a Sega Saturn Collection for the PS3?! the companies want to make money just don't forget about us old timers. Yes, SEGA, I did not only pre-order Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, but, I bought it as well. I have bought every Sega Genesis Collection to come out for the PS2 as well. Hmmm... you might be on to something if you keep releasing the CLASSIC stuff instead of yet another Sonic The Hedgehog (by the way where is Sonic from the Sega CD?!)

One last thing for those who love to read: James Patterson and the book is called MAXIMUM RIDE. An awesome book that I just read almost in one sitting. It's got the other two follow-ups already out. Good Stuff!

Well, I guess that's all for now. Next blog I'll probably take a trip down memory lane but, before I do is it just me or is unlocking an arcade version of Altered Beasts in the new Genesis Collection for the PS3 a bit redundant? the home version is just as good if not identical. How about an X-men Arcade unlockable or better yet AfterBurner II with the cool sit down/revolving do-thingy (don't worry I should have enough room for it) unlockable. now THAT would be awesome...

Something Old Something New/Greatest Hits Label

I was going to title this blog "lookee what I found!" but, the other title seemed fitting. So, I get off of work Sunday night and an immediate thought surges through my brain: "I have to go to Best Buy!" and I tell you I have radar because A) Best Buy here closes EARLY (I got off work at 630PM) I didn't think I was going to make it! and B) there must have been something I needed. Well, going on my instinct I walked straight over to the PS2 section and LO and BEHOLD what do I see sitting on the shelf all by its lonesome?:

Metal Gear Solid The Essential Collection (PS2). Now, mind you this game seemed to VANISH from Gamestop's and Walmart's shelves. Didn't seem like they would be getting it back anytime soon. I am telling you: RADAR! so, needless to say I grabbed the collection without hesistation and paid the $30.00 + dollars (which to me is more than worth it) and I took it home.

It's great to have it back in my collection because it really was one I did not want to part with but, I had to :( and it was NOT easy. Rebuliding my collection is a slow process but, I really added a key element to it. A piece of the puzzle if you will. My next masterpiece will be:

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots (PS3) a game that defies description as it was an AMAZING experience and a true game in every sense of the word.

I also want to get it before they slap that ugly "Greatest Hits" stuff (for a better word so I don't get moderated) WHY DO THEY RUIN A PERFECTLY GOOD GAME COVER BY PUTTING THAT ON THERE?!?! it's as simple as putting a $19.99/$29.99 price sticker ON THE PLASTIC COVER of the game NOT ON THE GAME BOX ITSELF!! that basically tells me as a consumer that A) this game has sold X amount of copies and therefore it is cheaper now. Needless to say this is an urgent matter for me. I did for Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3) and (Phew and still no GH label) this Friday I'll be doing the same for MGS 4:GOTP.

Change But Stay The Same

Hello Gamespot! and to all those that are on my friend's list: how are you?! I have been away for quite a bit. There is a reason for that I can assure you. Considering the financial crisis worldwide I've had one of my own. Actually my girlfriend and I had one. So, to give you a long story short I had to sell every PS2/PS3 I owned. Thats right! every game (except the ones I had sent from San Diego; those were spared) so I considered "retiring" from video games for good since there would be NO WAY I'd ever come back from this loss. Well, I'm back. I am also slowly rebuilding what I lost and I vowed never again to sell any more games unless its to get another one that I really want.

Yes, I am still a victim of the impulse buy but, I am getting better. I am also learning to wait. You see it does help to wait because the prices that these games come out as is justified (for SOME of the games not all) but, the prices do come down. Take a look at Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots! it's cheap now! I m about saving money and if that means I have to wait then so be it. To rush out and plunk down $60.00 for Street Fighter IV (which I read elsewhere is absolutely awesome) is crazy! I think people are under the impression that this game or any game for that matter is going to vanish from the face of the earth and they have to get it NOW! not to mention the months, sometimes years, of hype going into the purchase. To those making BIG $: more power to you. Not everyone's account can match yours. Go out and do your thing.

Well, as crazy as it is I m doing it too! I am just being more SELECTIVE about it. Here, let me backpeddle a bit: Resident Evil 5. I love the Resident Evil series (ever since Resident Evil 1 on PS1) and the last Resident Evil 4 (PS2) was amazing. So, naturally I'd like to hear and see not to mention PLAY the next one. This game DOES justify a pre-order and purchase out the gate. Being honest so does Street Fighter IV! I just can't do it though financially. Yes,I did pre-order and going to buy Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection (PS3) but, here's the difference: you get 40+ games for about $30.00! plus, I love the old-school things. (I am old-school established: Atari 2600) But, thats it for now. I have to pick and choose my spots. That's the sensible me talking. The GAME CRAZY me will still most likely put down a pre-order for Street Fighter IV and buy it the first second it comes out. Who knows what I'll do. If you happen across my NOW PLAYING/MY COLLECTION and see Street Fighter IV there I guess you'll know what I decided. But, here's what I am working on: Getting back The Metal Gear Solid Essential Collection (PS2) + Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots (PS3) back. Then, I'm going to switch up and get the Devil May Cry Collection (PS2) + Devil May Cry 4 (PS3) which by the way is now $19.99-$29.99 as I write this (see it does pay to wait)

So, the next blog you read I'll be praising Street Fighter IV or it will still be on my wish list. Who knows?! I will NOT be reviewing Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection because let's face it: the games on there are classics and don't need anymore kudos. I can't wait to play Streets Of Rage 1,2,and 3!! as for Resident Evil 5 better believe I'll be playing that one from beginning to end then afterwards I'll play online with a partner then comes the review. So, sorry for such a confusing blog. I know Garth Brooks was confused for a bit too (am I country singer or a rocker? hmm....) I just have to be in check with myself and know when to buy and when not to buy. That, considering the great games coming out for the PS3, is a challenge.

Civilization Revolution (PS3) Wed Night!

The game I have been waiting for! I played Civilization II (PS1) a long time ago and since then I have been playing Civilization IV/Beyond The Sword (PC) which is an EXCELLENT game. Civilization is an AWESOME series worth looking into if you haven't already. Even more so now that it's going to be released for the PS3 (and *ahem* other systems) the only thing that has put a damper on my spirits is the fact that I read one review that said you won't be able to take ONE MORE TURN... after you win or lose?! that's a very KEY part of the game especially if you lose. Okay, so you lost but, now you can take your military and get some payback. Oh well I shouldn't complain as I KNOW this is going to be an addictive game that I'll be playing tomorrow until the wee hours of the morning.

My advice is to put this game on your list. If there is a game that is worth the $59.99 price tag it is this one. Alot to do with this game and it's finally coming out tomorrow! anyway, for those of you who are picking it up ENJOY and for those of you sitting on the fence I won't lie to you this series isn't for everyone but, indeed it has something for everyone I mean c'mon everybody wants to rule the world. Anyway, I shall not be here on Wed night I'll be taking either taking the American Empire or the Japanese Empire and be taking over the world....

Romance Of The Three Kingdoms X (PS2) has arrived!

I just checked my mail and lo and behold my game finally arrived. I have been looking all over for this game and nobody seemed to have it in stock! I did find it once though at a local Gamestop but, the instructions were missing and the box was all messed up. Sorry, when it comes to getting games I have to have it all as I am a perfectionist. Anyway, my copy is BRAND NEW and I'm ready to play. I'll come back with a review when I have spent some time with the game but, I already know I am going to enjoy it (yes, it's true that I know a game is going to be good or bad before I play it *ahem* sometimes) but, anyway I gotta game to play.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots-First Impressions PTIIofII *SPOILERS*

I finished the game. Yep, it took me the all of Monday to do it but, it is done. The bosses are veeeery unique and a BLAST to fight. I'd say my favorite boss fights was with the Laughing Octopus. It was very neatly done. I know that my favorite stage has to be the one where you get taken back to Shadow Moses and you are pretty much transported close to the beginning of Metal Gear Solid (PS1) it was interesting walking through there and hearing the voices of the past. It was both eerie and nostalgic at the same time and really had an impact on me as a video game player. The ending I won't talk about but, if you happen to get there by all means bring breakfast, lunch, or dinner because you're gonna be there awhile. Maybe it's because I started playing at 11AM and didn't finish till about 7PM but, by then with no breaks I was just ready to call it quits but, the ending went on FOREVER....... I did enjoy the split screen of the goings on during the mission briefings and at the end when Solid Snake was crawling through the passageway while the battle raged on the ocean. The final fight with Liquid was kick butt but the fight that stole the show for me was Raiden VS. Vamp (1st encounter) W H O A!

The game is a PERFECT 10 to be sure. It is a work of art. The game I felt could be long-winded at times (blasphemy I know) but, dang I was just ready to go. I was ready for the MEAT of the matter so to speak and was ready to get on with it. I do truly hope that this is the end because in all honesty I don't know how they could top this one. Can it be done? personally, I think it is a fitting ending for a EPIC series.
