Here is a true story I'd like to share about my experience at Gamestop...
I had just payed $15 for a NEW, but opened copy of Sonic Genesis Collection on PS3. You may argue that a game is no longer NEW when the shrink wrap is taken off and I would be inclined to agree. However, Gamestop likes to bend the rules for their own financial gain. When the employee sold it to me, he sealed it with a clear plastic sticker, but keep in mind that the copy had already been opened and there was no mention whatsoever that this sticker was absolutely the only thing on this green earth that I could show them, except for a gun, that would allow me to get my money back. Nevermind that I have a receipt.
The following day I went back to the store and tried to return the game, though I was promptly told that this was impossible due to a lack of aforementioned sticker, which I had removed in good conscience knowing that the stickers they use become extremely difficult to remove once they have set, effectively destroying the game's case. In fact, it was an employee at that very store who told me to remove it right away to avoid this. It's funny that the same employee who told me this was the only one I ever liked to any extent. Anyways, I tried to explain to the manager that I had bought it without shrink wrap and it was an opened copy. We talked for several minutes and finally I gave up understanding that this @$$hole manager was not going to break. While I was leaving, another customer told me of a different Gamestop that had returned his opened new copy.
I went to another store and got the same answer, except this guy went out of his way to call the store I bought it from and ask them whether or not they ever told customer's to remove the sticker's right away. As a slap to my honesty and integrity, they had said they never told customers to do that. At this point, I am an extremely pissed off individual and am dead set on getting my money back. I go home, take out some packaging tape, place it on wax paper, and cut a circle around it roughly the size as the sticker's they use. I put it on the game and go to yet another Gamestop.
Unfortunately, the manager at this Gamestop has received a telephone call about me from another store telling them not to do business with me. Now I'm not making this up. Someone actually went out of their way to prevent me from returning a $15 game. They called multiple stores in the area in an attempt to thwart my efforts. So even though I had the sticker and the receipt I could not get my money back. Only one Gamestop remained in my area and I had lost all, but a sliver of hope that I would ever be able to return this game. But fate was on my side this night and I got to speak with the night shift employee who was unaware of who I was. He had no knowledge that I was that devious customer every Gamestop manager was being warned about. Without any questions being asked, I got my money back and got the hell out of there, never to return. THE END
