Life of a gamer - part 2

I know it has been a long time since i wrote the first part of these updates; lets hope i can maybe update this more often.

I have just finished my NC qualification at Reid Kerr College for computer game development; this course basically shows you in some detail what steps are required in making a computer game. The main fear i had with this course is though that i was never very good at coding at school and when it did come to coding the lecturers were very helpful and talked you through what functions carry out what. The course in general is fantastic and i am grateful that i managed to obtain a space on the course as it is very popular and now moving onto my HNC i hope to be able to achieve more.

Enough of the boring stuff out of the way i want to talk about games. The games i have really have been drawn to lately are the games that i like to call my forte; this would be RPG games. I know many people are not interested and dont want to get involved in games that take 40 + hours to complete and for that i can understand peoples disregard of the genre. I love these games because you invest yourself into the game and draw out the emotions of the characters and follow a path that someone had laid out for you to follow. It is someone who has managed to open their mind up and let you in to their thoghts and feelings and it is something you wish to share with the world. It takes a certain kind of person to allow their mental images to be projected into other peoples minds.

The great RPG's of modern day are simply fantasic with the likes of Skyrim, Dark Souls and Mass Effect just to name a tiny fraction. These games all have their place in the world of gaming but all are not without flaws.

Skyrim -

Skyrim is a visual masterpiece with a team of extremely talented people at the helm, these are people who really do care about their work and take pride in bringing you an adventure experience that will be remembered and changed with every playthrough of the game you wish to undertake. The different range of quests and abilities allows for you to have a totally different experience from your friends and then you can discuss what you brought to your own unique experience. The fact you can alter your own charcter to look the way you want allows you to tailor your story and then how much time you invest in your character allows you to envoke emotional rections from the outcomes of events in game.

The down side to this game is as much as it can appeal to new gamers the controls can be very annoying for a new gamer to grasp. I personally watched someone struggle in the opening set of this game when a dragon first appears and the player was lost from the word go. I know to a self proclaimed gamer a controller feels like an extension of yourself but to someone who had only really played Guitar Hero or Dance Central a controlled can feel alien. This means the Skyrims should have a more in depth tutorial section of the game, much like the type found in the Witcher 2.

As i have rambled on for a while i shall stop now and come back at another point to updates this further. Thanks for reading (if anyone reads this) and any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
