I remember playing Perfect Dark back in 2000. I was only 6 years old at the time. I remember the very first level in the game, where you break into that building. Was my favourite level. Going up and down the elavators, was a blast back then. :P I never actually owned the game. I kept on renting it out from my local Blockbuster, which sadly shut down back in 2005. I played four player deathmatch with friends. But the most fun I had was 3 player deathmatch, with my brothers.
I downloaded the demo last night to relive some childhood memories. And to see if the XBLA version is much different to the great Nintendo 64 version. I started to play it, and the first level was just like I remembered it. Starting off on the roof. Sneaking down taking out one guard at the door then sneaking in. I've read that the controls can be a bit confusing at times. But I personally found them quite easy to use. Sure it took a few mintues to adjust to the control scheme. But when I did, there was no looking back.
The graphics themselves have got a nice clean up. They obviously don't look like games today. But their still nice to look at, considering this is a ten year old game. Wow ten years ago I was 6, feels like only yesterday. Anyways the only real problem I had with the demo was the lock on aiming. It just didn't feel right. You don't have to use the lock on aiming, but it helps a bit. Just feels a little sloppy, and out of place for me.
Would I recommend buying the game based on what I played? Yes, yes I would. The reason being the game still holds up today. The acheivements, leaderboards, online play, and the long story. Will keep many people playing for hours upon hours. I, myself will be purchasing this game next week.
I would give the demo a 8.8 out of ten. When I do buy the full game, and finish everything there is to finish. I'll post a detailed review.
Thanks for reading.
