you can convert any desktop driver to a laptop driver. We used the latest driver that just came out for BF3 for desktops on this laptop. We just had to find a modified .INF file and it worked great. Both Nvidia and AMD are like this, you can use modified desktop drivers on them if they dont officially release the driver for laptops. Going from 11.4 to this 11.10 beta for BF3 made his framerate from 20 or less FPS to 30+ FPS. Also ATI releases desktop and laptop drivers on a monthly basis.

Nice! That sounds good. Assuming the final version should be better optimized and drivers would be better as well so he will get better perfromance. BTW, why is it that Toshiba and Lenovo laptops are so darn expensive? I mean I'm getting better specs with Sager for a much lower price!

That's great! Sager is a custom laptop brand am I right? They don't have those in Thailand. So I'll be stuck with Toshiba, Lenovo, or HP. :(

Wow, then the 580m and 6990m are definitely beasts for a laptop. So what's your laptop? You mainly game on your PC I assume, but is your laptop stable at gaming?

Definitely. I have seen both the GTX 560m and the 555 in action side by side with the 555 at 1333 x 768 and the GTX 560m at 1080p. I have a laptop with the 560m and my brother has one with the 555 in it. We ran a test on the haven benchmark at fairly low settings at 720P and I stomped his computer throughout the test by as little as 10 fps ( I was at 32 and he was at 22) and as much as 20 fps. We literally have the same specs, except his computer has a crappy Alienware screen at low resolution, and I have the screen on the laptop I posted above at 1080p. We've also played BFBC: 2 side by side and I can barely stand to watch him play it at a dismal 25 to 30 fps on such low resolution, while I am playing the same game with higher settings (all high except for AA and AF) at 1080p getting a good 35 to 55 fps. From my real life experience the GTX 560m is the better GPU by a long shot. The AMD equivalent is probably the 5870m which is a tiny bit slower, and the 6950m which is a tiny bit faster.

Wow, that's a considerably huge difference. So my understanding is, GTX 580m is the best laptop video card right now? And how is that compared to GTX 560m? I know AMD video card would be cheaper, but I'm leaning more towards getting an nVidia.

You may want a gtx 580m, equiv to a 560ti

6990m is a bit faster and cheaper. It is an underclocked 6870.

Now I know that nothing beats a desktop for gaming, but I'll be moving around quite a bit and I'm thinking of buying a gaming laptop. These are the specs of my current desktop:

Intel Core2Duo E6600
4 GB RAM DDR2
ATI Radeon HD4870 1 GB

I've had this desktop for almost 3 years and it can still handle most new games on medium-high settings with stable framerate.

The games I'm looking to play are BF3, MW3, Arkham City, RAGE, etc. mostly upcoming games and I would like to buy a gaming laptop which can handle those aforementioned games and most games coming next year on at least medium-high settings. I'm sure my current desktop will be able to handle them easily on medium settings.

I'm thinking of getting a laptop with these specs:

Intel Core i7-2630QM (2.0 GHz, 6 MB L3 Cache, up to 2.90 GHz)
nVidia GeForce GT 555M (1GB GDDR5)
8 GB DDR3

These specs seem considerably better than my current desktop but from what I understand it's nowhere near as powerful as its desktop equivalent. So my question is: if I get a laptop with those specs, compared to my desktop, what kind of performance should I expect? Better than my desktop? Same as my desktop? Worse than my desktop? Thanks in advance.

Why? Most people recommended me the HD4870 as it performs better than the GTX260.
