Yesterday, I posted about my frustrations that Sony announced a "new" PS3 model in place of the current 40GB neutered model that's currently in store and at a 100 bucks less. Yay, or so I thought. It turns out they just took a 40GB PS3 and stuck a 80GB hard drive in it and it still has the less ports and no BC capability.
Upon finding this out, I was immediately pissed and bummed to no end. I wondered if they would pull a sneak and unveil a model for the extra 100 that had all the trimmings. Fat chance as seen in a news posting later that day that confirmed they were selling out the 40GB model and halting MGS4 bundle shipments. So, what stock the stores had is all they get, and once it's gone, we holdouts would either be stuck without a system that had the extra ports and backwards compatibility or choosing between a neutered model or nothing at all.
So, with this news, first thing this morning, I was calling Gamestop stores and found one over in the next town that had one. The clerk I talked to was named George and while he said he couldn't hold it for me, I told him I would be in later today. An hour later, I was in the car and headed for it with all my speediness. Why is that when you're racing for the last of something everything seems to be working against you.
Upon getting to the store, I went right up to him, we got into it and 5 minutes later, I had a MGS4 Bundle on the floor and waiting to be paid for. In effort to lower the price, I had brought in my PS2, which was my whole purpose of buying a PS3 with BC in it. I got 35 knocked off the price. Next, I went and got a second DS controller in case company comes and a extra 360 controller and charger. Since I have PS2 games and PS3 doesn't take memory cards, I also bought an adaptor for it. (I don't know weather I'm gonna keep it or not since after DLing my data, I have no more use for the card or the adaptor. Trade in the card and try and return the adaptor?
What's your advice, people?
When I got home, I realized I had everything, but a separate charge cord for the extra controller and a cable for my router to hook the PS3 up to it. That's ok. I can get the extra cord if I need it for 10 bucks and a router cable from Monoprice.com for like 5 bucks.
For now, I'll use the wireless features of the PS3 and my router and see how well that works.
So, after today, I've got my hands on:
PS3 MGS4 Bundle
Two Dual Shock 3 controllers (Both are Black, I'm wondering now if I can return it, unopened and get a white one. Advice on that?)
A PS2 memory card to PS3 adaptor
A black Xbox 360 play n charge controller bundle.
The only downside to all this is the money spent on all this. I'll be paying it off for the next few months, but I have it now and it's done.
I'll do a video blog on this later.
