[QUOTE="Phazevariance"]No, the hardware is NOT capable. Ok, technically it CAN run in HD, but no games would run. The special effects would cause the system to chug because sudenly it has like 8x more work to do. On top of that, texture sizes need to be larger on higher res games, and the wii doesn't have the memory storage capacity to keep them loaded all at once while the game runs. It will not happen on the wii, mark my words.Zerostatic0The original Quake ran at high resolutions on machines far weaker then the Wii...
Resolution means nothing if no one programs textures to take advantage of the high resolutions. The machine does have to be more powerful to render the complex textures, higher polygon count, effects, etc.If theWii were given a firmware update to render HD, thecurrent game would look the same because no one programmed them for HD.Quake did run at a high resolution but definitely couldnt be considered "HD" by today's standards, because the machines at the time could never process all the effects.
