you should just be able to plug it in through the usb slot and it should work fine. the computer will read unkown object in USB slot X and then it should install drivers for it, and it will come up as a 360 controller. If not call microsoft and get some help with that.
For some reason on vista a downloaded .exe takes a LONG LONG LONG LONG LONG LONG LONG time to open. Wait about 3-4 hours and it may just open happens to me all the time. Makes me wish vista didn't exist.
The best way to make it run smooth is to upgrade your GFX card. Probobly for you a Radeon x1950 XT because you could max out graphics and you could also have AA and HDR on at the same time. The second thing to upgrade would be the ram to 2 gigs but that willn't make great difference right now.
