@fernandofan08 *sigh* My problem isn't with the story, it's the only part of this game that I found interesting (even if we're talking about comic book writing- but since I haven't really gotten far into it I can't comment on that). Problem is I didn't WANT to continue the story because gameplay-wise I've been doing same things over and over again, and novelty has worn off.
Roleplaying elements =/= Roleplaying game Skill trees in Arkham games are very linear
As you pointed out, at least Arkham City added some improvements. I also agree with you that story in this game is a lot better. Now, don't get me wrong, I wasn't expecting genre-defining masterpiece, that would be naive, but after trying it myself.... it's just not something I'd pay full price for. No franchise has been improved by mercilessly milking it (see Assassins Creed, CoD, Sonic, Nintendo games) and I suppose I just don't wat to see it happening with Arkham series.
@RAD_RADIO @CoL0sS Here's the thing; I don't really care wheter you or anyone "buys it". It's just my opinion and it's pretty irrelevant when compared to (this) professional review. For me, stagnation, rehashing and franchising are killers of inovation and this game (which is in no stretch of the word bad) suffers from same ailments that plague most of the sequels.
@ @fernandofan08 I clocked in after little under 2 hours. If most of the glaring issues of the game became obvious to me in that time I think I have a right to quit. Besides, what kind of an excuse is "it's a slow starter" ? How much of my time is a game allowed to waste before it starts being fun ? I learned my lesson with FF XIII. This is not an RPG. If Arkham Asylum & Arkham City managed to be fresh and interesting right off the bat, why shouldn't I be allowed to point out that IMO this one fails to do so ? This is a big, expensive and very competitive industry that delivers luxury products. If a developer can't keep up than they shouldn't be playing with the big boys.
Review is spot on. Game does nothing except stagnate. After playing it for merely an hour I found out I really had no motivation to turn it on again, except for my interest in the story which I could easily satisfy without going through 10 hours of poor Arkham City clone. City feels emptier, crime scene investigations feel like following a step-by-step manual and I always thought that removing Enigma riddles worked against the whole "clash of genius intellects" they had going. Solving a puzzle by hacking through it doesn't make me feel like a worlds greatest detective. It makes me feel like I'm cheating. Overall it's uninspired, not worth the full price and basically for die-hard Batman fans.
Yeah, despite his justifications I'll still question the logic of dressing her in bikini & fishnets in MOUNTAINOUS DESERT TERRAIN. Next we'll have a mini-game in which Snake applies sunscreen on her body -_-
This song seems really off to me. Doesn't really work for the game and it doesn't provide that sense of grand scale when fighting a 50foot alien monster.
