The enemy advances at a pace (determined by your difficulty) regardless of your own progress. The missions are scaled based on how long into the game you are, not how powerful your soldiers are. There's only one exception which is psionics. Psionic enemies won't appear until you do a specific mission.

Overwatch is extremely helpful. The reason why a lot of people think it sucks is because they use to to defense against approaching enemies they haven't spotted yet. When you spot an enemy and shoot at overwatch, remember, you are just spotting them. That means they are at the longest range of your vision range, and your chance to hit will be very low. Overwatch is more important to use once the fight is already on. It prevents the enemy from flanking your position. This is especially important on Classic and Impossible, because if you go a turn without any overwatch, the enemy will rush your position and defeat you from one square away, or from behind your cover.

Well if you're a darkmoon, people literally cannot indict you. Most people don't indict anyway from what I've seen. Don't know why it'd matter much though, the Book of the Guilty is really just a "Book of the Biggest Douchebags". It's just another meaningless leaderboard, so don't worry about it and just have fun testing your skills against others.deershadow
No, the idea was that you try to get as much indictments as possible so that you could be invaded by and fight the other high-tier players going for the top of the list. Indictments have nothing to do with being a douchebag.

Don't heal while vulnerable, avoid obstacles while fighting, don't stand near cliffs, don't cast spells while the enemy can dodge, etc... Knowing the terrain and the battle system is part of it. It sounds to me you are more interested in passive RPGs, like final fantasy and so forth, so this might not be your type of game. It has a very different style of gameplay and it does kind of expect you are willing to learn how to play, rather then trying to teach you.

Working on a ranger, what skills affect your bow damage? Is it Dex or Str? Also going for a buckler and dagger or sword and dagger for my secondary, will this be a realistic loadout to play and enjoy the game, without having to break roleplaying and pulling out some sort of bastard sword and massive shield? Also is ranged even feasible for PvP?

Also any general tips for a ranger character would be helpful, thanks all.

Its based on what kind of weapon you use. When you look at a weapon stats, you can see four stat modifier icons at the bottom, for Strength, Dexterity, Magic, and Faith. They are ranked from E to A (I don't think there is S in this one), or they have a "-" instead. A weapon with say, an E in Dex, means it gains a small amount of bonus damage from your dexterity score. While a C or a B gains much more bonus damage. A weapon that has "-" for a stat means it doesn't gain any bonus damage from that stat. Some weapons can have stat bonuses for more then one stat, like gaining damage from both dex and str. So, you should look through some weapon lists on the wikis and see what kinds of stats the individual bows use. I'm not sure of the enchantments bows can get, but many times enchantments remove stat modifiers (like lightning or fire- it'll take away any stat modifiers on the weapon). Overall, bows are not as strong as they were in Demon's Souls. I haven't tried to use them seriously. by my observations stat scaling isn't as good either... just get enough strength/dex to use the weapons you want and rely on strong enchantments instead, putting the rest of your stats into endurance and health. I wouldn't try to go into PVP if you are limiting yourself with RPing, but you can try. Nothing to lose really.

I havent seen such a bad designed game or such lousy controls in a game for at least 15 years. The graphics are the least awful and the keyboard-mouse controls are impossible.DONT buy this game until a patch or something

Sorry to break it to you, but everything is there from the start so you don't need to waste dozens of hours doing tedious garbage to get to the actual game. So sad :(

So once you hit max level you... what? Go back to low level areas and... get what for it?

Its a cross of the two. The whole game is instanced like the cities are in the first game. So you do meet other people while you are out adventuring but you are on an instance. Also unlike the first game, you can't choose or even see what instance you are on, so grouping is a huge hassle...

Most of the barbarians basic skills use his weapons to just chop enemies. Its a skill, sure, but he's still just hitting them. The demon hunter also will use his bow/crossbow for a lot of his attacks and skills. The other classes won't actually use the weapons you equip on them. Its pretty silly with the monk since he runs around with his weapons out, sheaths them to punch, and then takes them out again when he's done fighting. Its a little silly but whatever.

Its the facebook/reddit generation. Anything more then a thumbs up and a thumbs down is too complex to understand. It's either a 10, or a 1.
