Zombie Games: When will someone finally "hit the nail on the head?"

Unfortunately, the Walking Dead mid-season finale is over, and my zombie fill for the time being has taken a vacation. Though I've turned to the comics to witness Robert Kirkman's masterpiece in its intended form, it simply is not enough to satiate my desire to bash in some zombie heads, for the lack of a better phrase. Many of you are thinking, "HEY NOW...WHAT ABOUT LEFT FOR DEAD 2?" While I did find that game entertaining, it just wasn't realistic enough for me. Yes, I am aware that zombies in itself is unrealistic, but the idea of killing massive hordes of hundreds of zombies at a time, each with their own "special" zombies just doesn't do it for me. Zombie apocalypses are about survival, and it's certainly not about bashing in zombie heads with a guitar (though I admit the first time was very fun). Games should direct their attention to the fact that zombies are supposed to be feared and powerful when in numbers. The Left for Dead series doesn't deliver in this regard. Sneaking past zombies, taking out a few quietly, and running away after one of them notices you are perfect examples of the possiblities that have been ignored by game developers. I am intrigued by DayZ, that other one...(I think it's WarZ, but I'm not sure) and the Last of Us (which is in an entirely different league) yet I'm going to wait a while before I make an assumption about those games.

What is keeping developers from making a game that fits these standards? Why has it gone untouched for so long? I only hope that not too long from now, some guy will be sitting at his desk playing around with his stress ball and think, "I'VE GOT IT!"
