1994's Xcom UFO Defense was a game with a ridiculous amount of depth and gameplay that I thought it was way ahead of its time. Easily one of my favorite games ever of all time. What I love about these new Xcom games is that the developers try their very best to recreate the experience of the old UFO Defense game, and the end result is wicked awesomeness!

Have you tried Xenonauts?

Nope. I hear it has a similar concept to Xcom. Is it any good?

Have an internet cookie.

All of those games are niche games.

Not that they aren't fun....but they're not games that if they were to bomb, anyone would notice.

Niche or not, a great game is still a great game regardless. Great games where ever they are do add up.

I came here in the late 90s just to download PC demos. Turned console gamer during the PS2/Xbox era. Joined the SW community then. Wars were so epic then; so much passion, so much differences, so much rivalries, things got heated, awesome personalities, factions were born, and the ban hammer was consequently quite active. I guess at the time, the novelty of Microsoft's first console, death of the dreamcast, Sony's inferior system grabbing all the glory, and Nintendo's perceived kid like image made us back then very passionate about choosing sides with endless discussions topics.

Most of my 2002 - 2006 era colleagues are gone now. All I do is read news and lurk now.

Earliest in late 07 & Latest in 08 with the latter sounding more practical.
