It's been quite some time since I got DOA4, and recently I decided to get a new game for my 360. Luckily, I had some extra cash and ultimately bought two new games, those being Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and a rather unlikely choice for me, - Burnout Revenge. I've never been much of a racer and was usually avoiding these types of games. Little I've known about how fun can they be.
I originally bought a 360 bundle containing Project Gotham Racing 4, but I didn't really play it since I got it. When I finally got a little tired of DOA4, I got to play it. I didn't think I'd ever enjoy it much, but things turned out for the better.
Burnout series first got my attention when I stumbled upon the review of Burnout 3: Takedown back in the day. The game seemed to be fun from what I've seen, but I ultimately forgot about it. And here, I was browsing through 360 titles and noticed Burnout Revenge. Since it wasn't pricy and I had just enough to buy it along with MUA, so I thought - why not?
And then it began. That game is pretty different from what I'm used to see. It offers an extremely fast-paced gameplay; a huge variety of races, tracks and cars; enormous World Tour mode and just plenty of things to do. Every time you finish, you unlock more and more stuff which keeps you going all the time. The game is huge and offers plenty of variety. It provides an amazing sense of speed and the craziest road experience you'll ever see. Game's visuals and soundtrack don't disappoint, either. The gameplay is so exciting, it's addictive. As for difficulty, it's not too easy, yet it can be hard to archieve the Perfect rank on every race you get and will take a significant amount of time to do so. As I've noticed, I can hardly get tired of the game, even with repeating the same races over and over again. The only thing that I find to be rather distracting is loading times. It's one of those games that pushes you to use Xbox Live, get online and play multiplayer races to get the maximum experience and makes me want to get my Gold subscription back even more.
So far, it's the best experience and most fun I've ever had with a racing game. It makes me want to try more different things and spend more time with PGR4.
I've bought Xbox 360 on the 4th of March, and I hope it's going to last. I've been reading many articles about its failure rate, which was rather surprising (as I've never been too interested in Microsoft's products and the original Xbox in particular). Let's just wait and see. I keep on wondering how does the customer support work where I live (Moscow, Russia) in comparison.
Basically, I've decided to purchase 360 solely because of the game library it provides, as I was rather dissatisfied with Wii's library up to date, and I only found a couple games to be worthy of my attention. Currently having fun with Dead or Alive 4 and thinking about renewing Xbox Live subscription after my free one-month Gold expires. So to speak, - is it really worth it? Considering we're pretty much overpaying for it in Europe.
In other news, I've purchased The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Super Paper Mario on the 17th. I haven't been playing much lately, but certainly a lot more than I used to in the past year. Yesterday, I finally unpacked TP and started playing. I haven't been too positive about Zelda series in the past and so far only liked The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap for GBA and thus I wasn't expecting much from TP, despite all the hype it had back in the time of it's release (and to some point - even now).
And so, what are my first impressions about the game? The game looks wonderful (in terms of design), despite the graphical look being rather dated, but it's not a problem for me, as I usually don't care about the graphical look and go for the gameplay instead. So far, it's been great. I'm still in the beginning of the game, but all the simplistic training, fishing and horse-riding felt really awesome. I kind of forgot what it is to enjoy something so simple as a basic in-game training (due to a major lack of time spent playing games as mentioned above). The music is pretty nice, too. What is rather surprising, is that there's no voice work at all. Seriously. All dialogue in the game is text-based. Going to continue later tonight as soon as I recharge the batteries for Wii Remote. That thing eats batteries incredibly fast.
I've been missing out on some Super Mario Galaxy action since January, when I got stuck somewhere in the earlier part of the game. Time to resume.
