It's not paid only. Several games like Fortnite won't require the online service. As far as no virtual console, that's exactly what the online service is providing. It comes as part of the service. They just don't call it virtual console anymore.

They better bring way more than just NES games to make the service remotely palpable. Giving NES games online play just isn't enough to be exciting. Give us Gamecube games.

Just like with the Virtual Console, they'll likely roll new games out regularly. Seems reasonable to me.

Fire Emblem: Warriors is a great game for hack and slash fun. Many hours of gameplay with the DLC.

My wife and I got two of these, which you can modify quite a bit when you order:

You can see them in the last few pictures here:

I've been playing Fire Emblem: Warriors on Switch trying to 100% the DLC.

I just finished building a new PC, so I've also been playing Assassin's Creed: Unity to get caught up in the series. Also, I just got the season passes really cheap for Watch Dogs 1 and 2, so I'll be playing that soon. All look amazing at maxed settings on this:

I also want to replay Thief to test it out on max settings. Love that game.

Yeah, it's really just the extra outstanding games that deserve hype after they're well and truly out.

Gamers are always looking for that magical 10/10 experience but in today's play-it-safe-re-produce-what-works developer mindset, most games just fall in at about 8 or 9 if you're lucky.

I honestly hate that mentality of looking for 10/10 games. It goes along with what I said above where people are looking for hype and waiting with bated breath for the reviews to come out to see if it got 10/10 to validate all the time they've spent following the hype train. **** that shit. Just play games that look interesting to you. (not directed at you, just people who do that)

I think there's a common thread here that it's because of a long hype train that creates unrealistic expectations. You drool over a game for 2 years, and when it comes out, you're already pretty much spent. It's the standard model for most companies these days and I think it ruins the experience for gamers. It's become more about the hype and build-up than just playing games. This is why I don't pay attention to hype and think people that fall for it are somewhat mindless drones that don't think for themselves. It's such a great experience going into a new game based on what you know you like and don't like rather than because of what people on the internet have been pounding into you for X amount of time on the hype train. I don't think people today can even imagine what it's like going to a video store to rent new games that you never heard of and find some really amazing games. Today, people practically know everything possible about a game before it hits the shelves so there's nothing new to learn once you put it in the console or install it.

For me, personally, I tend to play every game I buy and complete every task/mission there is and finish the game. I don't stop short because I'm bored or whatever like the OP mentions, and it's because I just buy games that I know I'll like and I didn't read much about the games beforehand to create unrealistic expectations. i.e. I don't follow the hype, I play what I like.

Like Diablo? Play Heroes of Ruin. Same thing. It even has coop and voice chat if you know someone else with the game.
