Sure, take the archetypal male power fantasy of being dangerous, wealthy, suave and sexually irresistible and make it about a woman. I'm sure it will appeal to the self same demographic that has been soaking that crap up for the last 50 years, it will do well and the tried and true sexism and "my soggy knees" card won't be pulled if it doesn't.

The plot introduced a diverging timeline from that of MK1-MKA, so I'm going to guess that the timelines are going to cross somehow, resulting in different versions of the same character, battling it out until there is only one Eg; Cyborg Smoke and Human Sub-Zero; Human Smoke and Cyborg Sub-Zero, defiant Champion of the Elder Gods Scorpion; ignorant servant of the netherrealm Scorpion, zombie Kang and Liu Kang, Dark Raiden and Raiden etc etc
