Games listed here that I agree with:
Chronicle's of Riddick
Mafia ( seems like people dismissed this as a GTA clone but for those who've played both games they can tell you the feel is much different )
No One Lives Forever series ( I personally liked the fist one more then the second )
Sanitarium ( Good find to the guy that mentioned this. Though this ones debateable. Not mind blowing but i enjoyed it...do i think everyone will get a kick out of it? m'eh... )
Syberia ( Now, this one i could recommend to anyone...who likes a good story.
System Shock 2 ( I'm suprised this one wasnt mentioned more on this list. Still one of the scariest games, i say. )
Thief series ( I personally liked the Dark Shadows game though i def wasnt into it was much as the first two. The original was a game that ALMOST got me to write fan fiction )
Vampire the Masqurade: Redemption ( yep )
Games Listed here i disagree with:
Vampire the Masqurade: Bloodlines ( nope ) (seriously though, this game was damned near broken for me. I was highly looking forward to this game in it's production but while actually playing it felt completely dissapointed and, dispite enjoying the story, I found myself just wanting to finish it to get it over with. I'm done with this game prettymuch and have no real desire to go back to it )
Games listed here that i actually own and havent even played yet:
Arx Fatalis ( dude, i've had this game for so damn long and i havent even yet to install the damn thing...sometimes i think to myself, "damn, i should really play this thing. It's been sitting on my shelf for years" but for reasons unknown to me it just never gets past that thought )
Deus Ex: Invisible War ( I dont even own this one...bought it used for the Xbox 630 {which i have recently purchased after bein a strictly PC gamer for so many years}but it wasnt backwards compatible so i had to take it back. I've been curious to try it since it had come out { loved the first one }but the mixed reviews have thrown me off buyin it...til i saw it for $5 )
Oni ( I bought this in a multi game pack. I have actually installed this one at one point and went through a bit of it but it really wasnt doin much for me though i dont think i've played it enough to give a credible opinion of it overall )
Planescape: Torment ( Why the hell haven't i played this yet?! i hear nothing but good things, i own it, and i've not played it. I think i have a phobia of RPGs taking up way to much of my time as i play them obsessivly when i do play them at all. Among other RPGs i own that i havent played are Balurs Gate 2, Icewind Dale 1 & 2, and a few others i dont think anyone's heard of )
Psychonauts ( Just picked this up...backwards compatible with the 360. Played through the training bit. Got it cause i still adore Grim Fandango and i do like the artwork in it. )
Games to add to the list:
Commandos series ( I havent played the third one but i've always liked this series and think more people should check out the first two )
Fallout series ( suprised no one has mentioned this but i dont think it got much press or did well in sales in it's day but now has gone on as a gaming legend in they catagory of underrated )
Grand Theft Auto: The original ( Has anyone played the first game before GTA3 was released? I loved this game when it first came out! {GTA2 not so much} The save system did suck though, and by "suck" i mean "wasnt even freakin there!". There wasnt much of a storyline. The game was designed from the start to be a sandbox, i think, with the missions thrown in with no real tie to any story. I remember being super excited about GTA3 when it was all talk and the only media, which blew me away at the time, was a green wireframe animation over black background of the GTA3 guy carjacking some dude. I though to myself, "Man, that's way too ahead of it's time! They cant get all of this in! There's no way this game's gonna meet my expectations!" The rest is history.
Grim Fandango ( still goes down as one of my favorite games of all time. From the art, to the story, to the music, to the dialog. I't just great on so many levels but unfortunatly, as this list has shown, gamers tend to skip the adventure games )
Hitman series ( I've played all but Contracts and i've loved everysingle one of them...why doesnt everyone else? )
Marc Ecko's Getting Up ( This was a great game and an inspiring story from an artist's point of view. Music in this game was implimented wonderfully, loved it...dispite some flaws )
ZPC ( ....alright...maybe not. Here's the deal, I was an obsessive fan of Aidan Hughes ( see KMFDM album covers and music videos ) and i loved his work so much that i actually really liked this game at the time. I just checked the Game Spot review [3.6] and i do agree with the review quote, "Where Hughes' artwork is most effective is in the various segues and cut scenes...These segments are so stark and powerful that you'll wish there were a lot more of them". A'men to that. Really i'm just throwin this one in as reference as to what one gamer may get out of a game maybe different to another. For me, a lot of the time, it's artistic stylings. Well....that and i was goin for obscurity points.
crap, this was a long-assed post....
