Rockman (Megaman) ZX Advent: Hands On

Megaman ZX Advent just hit japan not too long ago, and I have burnt a good sum of minutes with it. From what i've seen, this game plays exactly like Megaman ZX but with a different character and story. You have a choice to be either Grey (boy) or Ashe (girl). Once you select them there is a small sprite cutscene and then an anime cutscene depicting you coming out of your cryogenic slumber. You acquire your buster shot early in the game, and your charges are limited. You later on come to get the second buster or biometal and turn into megaman zx. Megaman ZX has had a makeover from the previous game, and he looks a bit younger and more distinguished. This game's formula hasn't really changed that much from past iterations, but this game still plays nicely and is really fun.

The graphics are what you would expect from a DS 2D platformer. They look crisp and clear, with a couple things 3D and 2D. For instance, when you kill a boss he explodes with a large 3D orange ball of flames that engulf his body. It looks really cool. I was also telling Seth about how much I love the character designs and sprites. The bosses look cooler then ever and i'm always excited when I see them. That's all the information i'm handing out about this game until October. Until then...

Dragon Quest Monsters Joker: Hands-on

I recently spent some time with the Japanese import of Dragon Quest Monsters Joker. Being a huge fan of the Monsters spinoff series, I have very high hopes for this game. I'm happy to see that it's shaping up to be one of the best DS games of the year. The graphics (for a DS game) we're great in bright 3D, although most of the textures had a very pixelated look. The game started off with a jail scene and then quickly ended up in a modern-****building. This modern feel looks to be consistent throughout most of the areas and although it's a fresh change, I personally preferred the midieval-****look. Although I can't read Japanese, the menu screen for exploring and battling looked complex and I think that there will be a decent level of depth to the game. I battled some monsters and it was pretty straightforward. But that's only because this was the beginning of the game.

One terrific aspect of the game is that the battles aren't random, the monsters run around and you can choose to try and avoid them if you like, an aspect I hope to see repeated in future RPG's. There looked to be a certain amount of exploration in the level I saw which was good, and the map showed quite a few areas. With some of the best graphics on the DS and refreshing gameplay, Joker looks to be shaping up like a great DS title.

Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings: Hands On

I have just played Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings and I am pleasantly suprised! I haven't played FFXII for the PS2, and this was a really enriching experience. It strays far away from the other final fantasies, as this one has no random battles and isn't turned based. It feels so good not to have random battles. Your dropped into the game as the young vaan, and i'm not exactly sure what the story is (because I can't read Japanese) but you appear to be fighting along side friends. You basically select your characters and click on enemies attack. It's mission based, so you don't free roam a large continent, it's actually clean and straight to the point. I have no complaints about the gameplay so far.

This game is also beautiful. It seems that every game keeps looking better and better with the DS. Your characters are 2D and the environment is 3D. It all melds together really well, and looks fantastic. You can chalk it up as one of the best looking DS games to date. Of course I could spill out more about this amazing game, but I guess you'll just have to wait for me to release the review when it comes out in english. Until then keep on reading...

Getting off the ground.

Today is the first day that we've written a review, right now "we" are only a two man team (me and seth.) I recruited Seth today, and hopefully there will be more people joining us.Now we start on the long journeyof reviewing every DS game out. It's a long road we are about to travel and we need all the help we can get. So if you want to join the DSreviewer crew, just send us a message containing a review and why you should write with us. You also have to have a pretty decent exposure to DS games.Until then, me and seth are going to try to pump out as many reviews as possible.

Zelda Phantom Hourglass: Hands On

I recently have had a chance to fit in a hour of gameplay with Zelda Phantom Hourglass, a direct sequel to The Windwaker for Gamecube. The control system is completly stylus based and is actually a really well done departure from the d-pad and buttons approach. To move Link, simply drag the stylus in the direction you want him to go, to slash tap the object you want to attack, to thrust put the stylus on Link and swipe it towards an object to attack, butthe most fun control is the spin slash. You just draw a small circle around link and he does theelaborate move we always like to see. You might be a skeptic of the new controls, but once you try them you won't want to go back to the d-pad ever again. Also, how you control the boat is a big step up from the gamecube version, as you just draw a path for your boat on the map, and dodge enemies on the bottom screen. I am still in early stages of the game, so I can't tell you all aspects of gameplay until i release the review.

As far as Graphics go the game looks amazing. The cel-shaded graphics add anotherdimension to what the ds graphics can do.It takes on the look of the Gamecube's windwaker, and looks very close to its counterpart.Everything works really well on the ds, and you won't be dissapointed.I will have a full review for you when the game comes out in october.
