Hey everyone (well to those that are still here I suppose),
Life is grand, and another E3 is upon us. Pretty much the sole reason I am on at the moment. Still snowboarding 2 seasons strong in Whistler BC, thinking about buying a place here, it's wonderful!
Anyway, for those on XBL that feel like looking me up, my gamertag is DXFanman. I'm mostly playing Halo3 and L4D with the occasional RB2/GHWT sesh.
That is all.
Peace.
Updates! And what's up with Facebook taking over the world?
by DXFanman on Comments
Hey all! It's been some time now since I've been on.
I made a huge move to the west coast last month from Halifax, NS to Whistler BC. If you aren't familiar with Whistler, it's alot like Aspen, but way more snowboarders/extreme sports enthusiasts.
I have tons of pics from the town, but all are conviniently located on my facebook profile. This brings me to my next comment. Where the heck did Facebook come from, and how has it become so huge in such a short period of time. One of the many mysteries of the universe I suppose haha.
Anyway, if anyone wants or cares to update themselves on my recent adventures check out my facebook profile under Doug Martell (halifax NS network).
 I'm out!

Lots going on these days! I've got to keep this blog updated.

This new blog entry was sparked by two things; TGS 2006, and a new banner for my profile.
First things first. I'm sure many of you have been keeping up on TGS news lately, and I'm just curious to find out what most of you feel like after seeing the PS3 showing so far, against the second gen games from Microsoft.
To tell you the truth, I have never been so excited for games until this year, mainly RPG's. It's been a long time since a good traditional RPG like FF6, Chrono Trigger, or Skies of Arcadia has come out. Enter the Blue Dragon.
I was expecting alot out of Mistwalker with such an all star staff working on the major projects there. Well after seeing Blue Dragon in action (check out the vid in the TGS section on GS if you haven't already) I'm sold. Wow. Nothing has stimulated so much nostalgia since FF10. On top of that, there were a multitude of other really, really great looking games for the 360 as well. 2007 should be a great year for the industry.
With all that aside, anyone see the new ipods? All I know is that a brand new 80GB Video is going to be mine very soon. I was thinking about holding out for the M$ Zune, but Apple has seemed to get it right time after time without having to reinvent itself. Simplicity is what makes their product work.
I read recently though that M$ may retail the Zune for $99?! Of course it's just a rumor, but still, could you imagine. http://reviews.cnet.com/4531-10921_7-6643064.html?tag=cnetfd.mt
Anyway, that's enough tech blab for now. I'm just glad I am updating again, oh and let me know what you all think about the new banner!

Gaming again?
by DXFanman on Comments
The Wii had a great showing IMO. Nothing gets me more worked up than nostalgic gaming. I love the Wii-mote too.
Speaking of nintendo, it's great to see the DS Lite on its way.
While Sony's showing was sub par, they did announce the pricing, as well as some great games (Heavenly Sword and Assassins Creed *drool*). To tell you the truth, while I was planning on buying one all along, it's really just nice to be sure about what you are getting. Oh and PSX games on the PSP, very cool. It's Ridge Racer, Riiiiidge Racer!
Microsoft has a killer line up as well for Q4 2006 and Q1 2007. It's great to be on the heels of the second wave of games for a really sweet system.
For once, I am greatly anticipating quite a few PC games as well. Crysis, UT2007, Spore, and of course Supreme Commander. Looks like it may be time to upgrade that graphics card.
All in all there was alot to see this year, and ultimately alot to look forward to. Lets hope time/money permits me to pick up the habit again ;)
On a personal note, I'm working for Hewlitt-Packard these days as a sales person at least until the graphic design jobs (well the good ones) start coming in. It's good money, and I have tons of chances to win prizes among the group (based on sales numbers) such as Media Centers, Notebooks, LCD/Plasma TV's, Printers, etc..bring it on.
So that's it for now, until next time.

"The end of an age" - gaming comes to an end for DX
by DXFanman on Comments
Yes, that's right gaming. Over the past few years, it has fallen further and further down on my "to do" list. These days, it's almost non existant.
At one time, no more than 2 years ago, I owned the following:
PS1 w/ LCD
PS2
Xbox
GC
GBA/SP
PSP
SNES
NES
Atari 2600
PC
SEGA DC
My current console situation looks like this:
XBOX (with alot of dust on it)
X360 (which I am considering selling for extra $$$ while I still can)
and of course my PC (which I get the most use out of)
Basically, console gaming is dead to me. Over the past few months, all I have played (for an hour or 2 at a time) has been Stepmania, and CS (with friends online when I get the chance). Even these rare gaming sessions are far and few between.
I guess as you get older, and your life changes, so do your priorities. I have gone from a 16 year old introverted gamer, to a 23 year old extrovert, focused on his career/social life. I suppose it's not such a bad thing in the end.
Games will always intrest me, along with the ever changing technology (I am a technophile at heart), but my wallet seems to be aimed more towards new clothes, louder stereos, fine dining, and alcohol. My name is Doug Martell aka "DXFanman", and I am a casual gamer......*sigh*
It's been a while

Anyway, what have I been up to? Well I finally got a job in the videogame industry. It's with HB Studios to be exact (Currently developing EA Rugby 2006). Unfortunately with this glorious news comes a catch. I have a year, minimum, before I can take the job because I have to finish my design degree. This is why that piece of paper is so important. No worries, they are signed on with EA for another 3 years as far as I know.
I've also been upgrading my gaming rig as of late, with the purchace of a Samsung 42" Plasma TV. I figured it was time to upgrade just before next gen.

Isn't she a beaut! It's the HPR-4272 model to be exact, and in my opinion, one of the best 42" plasmas on the market right now. I'll be recieving it on the 13th of this month via delivery. I can't wait to play Xmen Legends 2 on this!
Thankfully, I have the space for something like this now. I moved out about a month ago into a downtown condo with a friend. I went from about 650 sq ft to 1200+ sq feet and 5 appliances. Basically, I am content on staying here for some time.
Summer was great, life is good, and that's about it. I'll try to update a bit more often. Pics of my rig to come next week!
I'm out!
