So I had a thought. At first, I wanted to pick an early 1900's American born composer to talk about as a setting for an Eternal Sonata sequel would be magnificent if the archistructure was set so rugged, so ugly. The thing about Eternal Sonata was that it was too pretty. As much as it didn't take place in the "real world", this was an obvious fantasy with a mixture of a realistic character. The only things that Eternal Sonata resembled to our world are the themes of death, betrayal and territorial war. I want the next one to have something more realistic. Something similar to Gears of War with the quote of "Destroyed Beauty", meaning something so beautiful can look so good even when it is in rubble. The whole setting of something like this would be great with a twist of fantasy here and there, and obviously a power-hungry dictator.
So I was thinking more along the lines of Johannes Brahms, a German composer in the 1800s. I personally love Brahms… not because all of his work, but one piece specifically. I have very limited knowledge on Brahms, but I know he composed the Hungarian Dance numbers. My personal favourite is number 5 as it sets the mood perfectly and uses a lot of instruments.
The only problem would be that his life was never all that dramatic as Fredric Chopin's was. The most he had was the fact that he died from cancer, so the story would revolve around, something similar to Chopin's as he is on his deathbed. It would be an interesting series to start, something like the Tales of series having a similar setting and ideals… Eternal Melody! It would revolve around Brahms, of course, with a male hero and a female heroine. I don't know the exact names, but let's just say the female will be named Kolo (a type of central European dance), and the male, Pavane (English Renaissance court dance). The situation would change as the female is more of a tomboy, being the leader of a rebellion group who is appealing – as I mentioned – a power-hungry individual who, in my mind, is a large man who takes around his bodyguards and wealth so he can buy anything and anyone. Pavane is… think of Max from Dark Cloud 2 who is a rugged boy who is a bit of a mischievous person, looking for fun, but he is helping his sick sister, trying to raise money in any ways. He gets caught up in the middle of a… well let's just say, not so peaceful protest. He is dragged through an adventure like no other, on which they run into Brahms.
I know I'm being pretty vague, but this is just a start and for you to get good idea of what I'm thinking.
