Although 1942 was great, I think I had the most fun with bf2. Vietnam and 2142 just seem like minor upgrades to their predecessors.
If you are looking for a newer game I would go with Medieval 2: Total War, or Company of Heroes.An older rts that is still one of my favorites would be Rise of Nations.
