Scared of the Lion's Roar

I'd like to begin with a rather amazing (and also somewhat depressing) little bit of news that has circulated around the web this week. This is what I'm talking about. I also don't like to think about how much I've contributed to that war chest! But..onto the main thing I wanted to write about, and it isn't a million miles away from that news cause it concerns the all mighty Apple once again! You may or may not have heard that very recently the Mac OS has been given an update to what they're calling 'Lion'. This new OS X is not quite a revolution but it has a few new features that have caught my eye and it's only very cheap to begin with (20.99 in British pounds and pennies). A lot of Apple users I know lap up the new updates without even stopping to contemplate the consequences of doing so..not that there should be any. But there are! Hence the title of my blog..I'm actually reasonably scared of updating from Snow Leopard. Why, you ask? There have been various reports that things actually just stop working due to compatibility issues with the new OS which is incredibly disappointing but sadly very much customary for a new launch of a digital product in this day and age. My plight isn't anywhere near other Mac owners..I do not rely on any applications to help me make a living but besides I still don't want to lose anything that I've paid for and have a right to use whenever I damn well please! Dan isn't a happy bunny if he doesn't get his minimum weekly dosage of Mac San Andreas. Damn you Apple! PS - hurrah for August though..birthday month FTW! DanC

Achievement Unlocked: SUPER secret blog!

100G. If you're reading this..congrats you've found my (temporarily at least!) secret blog. Why is it secret? Cause half the profile page is missing where you'd usually find people's blogs and therefore you will only find this by chance! Gotta love Glitchspot. DanC

Do it Properly or Don't Bother.

Quick ranties. The subject matter: Gamespot Fuse. I keep accidentally getting onto Fuse whilst looking at my profile somehow and get this: it's almost impossible to get back to the place I frequent most: these here forums! :0 Don't get me wrong..I like having my achievements linked to my profile (although seeing as the Raptr client doesn't work on Apples I cannot add my PS3 trophies which far outnumber my 360 equivalents!) but if you're going to make it work..do it right. Not half arsed. For that see the Fuse profile pages: giving anything you've done precedence over the main feature of pages: the good old blawg. Most pointless rant ever? Perhaps. Regardless..sort it out GS. Peace and chicken grease.. DanC

Game Breaker

This here be a blog of two halves..sorta! I first have a great big admission to make..after purchasing the 360 I've basically been exclusively playing a rather old game by the name of Banjo Kazooie. Forget Gears, Halo (rubbish) and Fable. Is that bad? :P BUT. There is a catch. I've happily been sat there with my rose tinted specs on turning back the clock a few years..and to be honest I've been really enjoying it and ever since we exiled the Nintendo 64 I've wanted to complete the game that I failed to finish all of those years ago. (not the only one too, Majora's Mask also comes to mind) Fast forward to the present day and after a good 12 hours 896 of 900 notes have safely been grabbed and also 99 out of 100 jiggies..the end is nigh as well as a nice achievement for getting all of the musical notes. Yes, it's time for another catch. This time yesterday I was frantically scouring the final level of Click Clock Wood for any sign of the aforementioned notes but after a good couple of hours of nothing I couldn't quite understand what was going on..cue me finding this on the web: "Disappearing Notes Glitch [MAJOR] As a word of warning: the original version of Banjo-Kazooie on the Xbox Live Arcade features a particularly game breaking glitch. If you complete all of Bottles' puzzles in Banjo's house before collecting all notes in the game, you may find that some notes have disappeared in the later levels. Keep away from the puzzles until you collect all notes to be safe." NOOOOOOOO. Why must you do this to me? DanC

Bullied out of a purchase?

Hai all ye Gamespotting friends! Summer is upon us...and at the time of year that we should be outside more I've decided to purchase a games console to do the exact opposite! If you've known me on any reasonable level on this site you'll know that I'm something of a Playstation aficionado..I've had every PS under the sun. (unless you want to count the PSX!) That exclusivity of sorts came to an abrupt end this week when I finally got around to shelling out for a shiny new Xbox 360 Slim! Why, I hear you ask? I couldn't really say..but they are so much cheaper nowadays and the 360 supposedly has this amazing back catalogue for me to rummage through to find some gems. Speaking of which.. Once again I have no idea why but I've really wanted to play Bully again after seeing it in the pre-owned section in stores recently. The catch? It seems to be ridiculously priced (25 quid). 25GBP isn't exactly a huge amount but for a second hand game that's more than a few years old now I just think..what the (insert expletive here)?! I could get so many (highly rated) games for that price! This is the point where you lot help me out..has anyone played it on 360 and is it okay now? And are there any other older 360 titles that you think I should be looking at instead? FYI I only have Fifa 11 and Forza 3 with Gears on the way. Thank you all and goodnight! DanC PS - Add me on XBL! DanC1989 is the name (shock horror).

Did someone say...

PSN? Welcome back friend, how I've missed thee. All I need now today is for Birmingham City to overcome Fulham in the football and I'm a happy chappy. DanC

Referendum.

WARNING: POLITICAL BLOG! Hello fellow Gamespotters! I hope you've had a good easter...I certainly have, although to be honest its conclusion has come as something of a relief because if I eat anymore chocolate I'm going to explode! Now onto the matter at hand.. Here in Blighty (The United Kingdom!) there's a referendum coming up about the way we vote and I'm really undecided as to what to vote for. This is where you lot come in! There are two options.. 1) Stick with the status quo, First Past the Post. Simple as it sounds..all one has to do when they get to the voting booth is pick their chosen candidate and slap a cross in the box next to their name. Drop the paper in the box and you're all done. The counting up afterward is extremely simple too..the person with the most votes wins, whether the margin of victory is one vote or a thousand. 2) Here comes the slightly more complicated part..the 'Alternative Vote'. This time when the British citizen walks up to the booth they have more choice than with the aforementioned First Past the Post. In this method you rank your choices from first to last (the number of which is dependent on how many candidates have stood in your particular area). Not too hard you say? Read on. It's slightly different when it comes to finding out the final result too..the winner requires a total of 50% to claim any sort of victory. If this isn't achieved in the first round then the last placed candidates lower choices get re-distributed to the rest of the totals and this process is repeated until someone emerges with more than half the votes. What does Gamespot think? On the one hand I think it's somewhat pointless cause it doesn't really change a lot but then could it be the beginning of more radical and fairer voting methods? (PR!) I promise to read any thoughts in the morning before I embark on my trip to the polling station..and if I happen to have none I'll weep and contemplate my pathetic excuse for a life. (then vote with my eyes firmly closed) :P DanC

This is the official petition to get Gamespot to change their name..because lets face it, there's a new one every five minutes. :P BONK! DanC
