Any advantages it might have are not good enough as long as we don't have a 100% stable internet with 100% up time.
If you can't play on a console that's meant for gaming, then what use does it have?
Instead of always online, they can provide a semi-online, where you lose some "always online" features (think social things like sharing progress and such that seems to pop-up all over these days) when your net goes down, and where they become available when the network comes up again.
