Missile Lock?!?!

Thanks to a $100 gift card for any Blu ray Player purchase at Wal Mart, I was finally compelled to purchase a PS3. The only downsize was that all they had in stock when the sale hit was the 40 GB PS3. I hesitated for a second but I figured backwards compatibility and a larger hard drive wasn't worth missing out on getting the $100 giftcard. Plus, I can just upgrade the 40GB drive easily with a 160GB one. Instead, I used that extra money to get a Dual Shock 3 controller and a retail copy of Warhawk, because I want a decent PSN multiplayer game and a BluTooth headset. I also rented MGS4 that day also, hoping that the multiplayer would give the game some lasting value after I beat my way through the story. Too bad the multiplayer isn't anything special, maybe a tad clunky.

Now it's just the minor wait for Resistance 2 and the long wait for Final Fantasy XIII and its Versus counterpart. Socom 3 also looks promising too.

Gwa'na

Indecipherable Jaimaican is by far the most enjoyable audio in GTA IV.

But GTA IV does not mix well with exams....

The Blue Glow of Success...

Through rites of mysticism and godlessness I have managed to coax my dead computer back to life. Living those ten days without a proper internet linked device have left a bitter taste in my mouth, and a small cramp in my hand from scrolling websites with my Wiimote. While the Wii did a fair job of feeding my desire for social connectivity and news reception it's still a small pleasure to be sitting in front of an eye drying monitor feeling the sensation of real keys beneath my fingertips.

Plus my Wii has been a tad lonely since it really hasn't seen much play time. I finally got around to beating Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and since then it has mostly been lying upright next to my television, more and less wishing it had online functionality or high definition graphics as it silently witnesses me constantly indulge myself on the Xbox 360. Though I am planning to pick up Resident Evil 4 : Wii Edition tomorrow. I'm aware that the game itself is a little over 2 years old, but dispatching monsters and dodging boulders rarely ever becomes a boring activity. I really did throughly enjoy its previous Gamecube iteration, and take the current opportunity to play it all again with the Wii-spiciness added.

War...War never changes...

Red Rings of Death...

My Xbox 360 has recieved the red rings of death. I am only slightly annoyed because I had the foresight to buy a 2 year warranty plan. Still, I'll probably be out of a console for about a month. Maybe if I'm lucky I can craft a heart wrenching letter of woe that would secure me an Xbox 360 elite from Microsoft, however astronomically unlikely that may be. I guess I should take some time to beat all my other games for once instead of spending all that time on Xbox Live...

We Wait for Wii...

Thanks to my efforts of luck and skill I managed to procure myself a Wii pre order from a local Toys R Us. I got there at 6am with the girlfriend in tow with hopes that a night spent in the freezing cold would warrant me access to Nintendo's crazy motion sensing masterpiece. I was around the 23rd person in line. My Toys R Us had 8 PS3 preorders and 19 Wii preorders. I wasn't really ganking for a $600 dollar console with no killer app launch titles, so I was pleasently happy with my assured place as a soon to be Wii owner.

Apparently the newest Tickle Me Elmo was also launching on that very same day, so there were a lot of mothers in line as well.

Store opened at 10am and we all shuffled inside for warmth and pre orders. There wasn't any ruckus, and I'm pretty sure everyone got what they came for. I noticed my arms felt atrophied and strained from sitting in my lawn chair for 4 hours. I need to move about the next time I wait for something...

My pre order slip sits neatly on my bedpost, awaiting the day when it shall warrant me my prize....

Rummaging For Used Entertainment....

Been buying up cheap games left and right lately. I’m glad the by product of a progressive economy involves the decrease of older video game software.

Ace Combat 4: Shattered Skies was a nice distraction for $7.99. The gameplay isn’t too demanding, and the game doesn’t try to be anything other then a solid arcade flight combat sim. The story behind the game has an odd amount of depth and charm for this genre, and I enjoy it very thoroughly. I’ll probably start picking up the follow ups in the series as their prices start dropping below $15.

Guilty Gear X2 #Reloaded is my second foray into the fighting games genre. My first being Dead or Alive 4. GGX2 Reloaded is just as fast and furious as the DOA games I’ve come to love, except that it’s all confined to only 2 dimensions and the fighters jump higher. The characters themselves are probably the most interesting cast I’ve seen in this game type. Any game that lets you fight as a man possessed by a host of apparitions or a sexy rock chick whose melee weapon is a guitar needs to be played at least on some level.

Unreal Championship 2: The Liandri Conflict
and Hulk: Ultimate Destruction are on their way through the mail and together they only cost me $20…..Ecstactic!!!

The Prey hides in the Blackness of Defeat

Finally got my hands on the Prey Demo for the 360, and I got to say. The gameplay sure is fun, and the demo is actually pretty good, even if it is 1.7GB. I only wish there were selectable difficulties and maybe a working save function. The biomechanical look to all the weapons helps me ignore the standard armament of assault rifles, grenade lauchers, and shotguns.

Multiplayer was also highly entertaining, even if the matches start to get annoyingly laggy when you have a game with more then 6 people. I like the acid shotgun, cuz it racks up them gibs…

I also rented Black which I thought would chew up at least 6 hrs of my life. Too bad it barely took my 4 hours to beat the game!!! Black is a game that suffered from a lot of hype and didn’t really deliver. Everything in the game was about average, the only thing they did well were the gun models and the sound effects. Pathetically short singleplayer and no multiplayer to speak of….For Shame!!!! I feel sorry for anyone who spent $40 dollars on this game expecting to get their money’s worth.

My computer starts to crash when I play DOD : Source now. I think it’s about time to replace my ATI Radeon 9250. Mainly because ATI no longer makes driver updates for it…..

Truly Next Gen?!?!

I was listening to a gaming podcast from these fellas and it got me thinking about what a truly next gen experience would be for myself. I want something that’ll make me cream my pants the first time I play it and the best experience I can fathom is…..crazy hyper stylized anime psyker action!!!

The one game that I have played that has granter a similar experience to the aforementioned notion is Phantom Dust. Which I thought was a pretty awesome budget priced game. Granted, card mechanics aren’t for everyone but at least the game had intriguing gameplay. The destructible environments were fun and added a lot of visual ecstasy to the carnage onscreen.

Now imagine all that in a next gen title. Fully destructible environments, not just scorched decals being slapped on to existent textures. Hiding behind a concrete wall will give you cover, but only until your adversary charges up a significant attack to blast the concrete away. Opponent on a bridge giving you a hard time because of his height advantage, target the bridges suspension and watch the entire thing crumble around him. Charging up energy around you disrupts nearby materials, causing metal to warp and concrete to buckle and crack around you. Projectiles pierce through walls and shatter shields in shimmering gossamer psychic energy. It’s almost like a Dragon Ball Z episode!

It’s interesting to note that a lot of what I just said deals with achieving more accurate physics engines….or at least as accurate as physics would apply if I blasted telekinetic energy at a wall. I think it’s a safe assumption that at least some of the truly “next gen” experiences will revolve around more refined usage of physics in a virtual environment.

On a side note, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. really needs to like come out, or at least be cancelled. I’ve been waiting for sooo long that I need at least some form of definite closure, either positive or negeative…

Thirsty For Hemoglobin

Oblivion is making me free time very interesting lately. I purposely turned myself into a vampire yesterday. While I don't mind the whole nocturnal thing, not being able to talk to people because I'm so hideous and lithe is starting to annoy me and limit some of my questing options

So, I set out to find a cure for my blood disease. Though in the process I need to find 5 Grand Soul gems, which are 335g a pop....ewwwww.

I've also come to relize that acrobatics are a somewhat useless skill, since its use in combat is somewhat limited, especially when I'm dungeon crawling.....All I wanted to do was hop around like I was in the Matrix.....le sigh
