My advice is, pursue the doctorate. This is an opportunity that many people could only dream about, and one that may not present itself to you again. I do not think that it will ever be too late for you to get into comic books if that is what you decide to do later on. So for now, I suggest getting the PhD and then perhaps trying the comic books later when you are better able to make an informed decision.
