Hi Guys, I'm totally new to these forums, first post, my apologies if I'm posting this in the wrong area. Please feel free to move if necessary. Please be kind. :) This week the internets have been ablaze with all thing GTA V and the reviews are quite rightfully in my opinion, correct. This is a truly magnificent game and a stunning technical achievement. I'm saying this purely about the games' main selling point - its vast open world with a huge amount of interactivity and opportunity for leisurely play. My criticism is one that you're no doubt all too familiar with. Its considerable amount of violence adult material. Now I'll quickly move to address any concerns you may have about whether I'm being too sensitive here. Not at all, quite to the contrary, what I have found in playing this game is that the excessive violence and hardcore content is distracting and often gets in the way, taking you out of the experience. I'm probably alone here when I say this, in my long gaming history, I've begun to notice how decidedly unsatisfying I'm beginning to find shoot'em up and action titles. It's all a little samey, throw in a few extra bells and whistles like vehicles and a higher octane gore element and this is the modern gaming mainstream market we find ourselves invested in. What I find so refreshing about the GTA series since GTA 3, is that it works in many ways like second life, offering a rich and immersive world to interact with. The sadistic violence is becoming harder to stomach and I'm more interested in roaming and engaging in other aspects of the game universe. I'm beginning to think the more I play it, that this world could make for a great non-action title all of its own. But that's a topic for another debate. The extra hardcore violent nature of the game doesn't really add any significant value to the player's gaming experience. It's a shock value that has become tiresome and a little tasteless. I just couldn't justify letting my kids play the game, obviously what with the game being 18s and all. Still, a lot of kids are playing it and I dread to think what their parents are allowing them to be exposed to. My question to you is, Do you think Grand Theft Auto V is too violent or do you believe that the violence is genuinely necessary to provide a compelling experience? Thanks for taking the time to read my first post. Dave
