Life span: Cost effective?

"On a long enough timeline the survival rate for everyone drops to zero." - This can apply to many things.

Dispite many reasons that people complain about it not even going past two years, because of certain bugs like the red ring of death, it is not the span of the system that you own into which they are inquiring.

Red ring of death.

They mean that they will keep using, and comming out with new content and games for the system... until that ten year span is up. I read a passage last night that stated the XBOX 360 was going to have a life span of ten years. Which is entirely possible... but for a company that thrives on the newest of technology, it seems plausible. But not in the way that we think they mean. We believe that what they are saying is that we will run our 360's into the ground before a new system comes out 6 years from now in 2015. Theidea that we will not have to shell out another 300 dollars for a new system until that year arrives. But after reading a comment about Sony's guaruntee, I am starting to think differently about the matter.

"The 10-year life cycle is Sony's long-standing goal for the PlayStation line of systems. Sony discontinued the original Playstaytion more than 11 years after its debut, while the PlayStation 2 will celebrate its ninth birthday later this year."

Meaning that, yes they do have a 10-year life cycle, but... they will still release new systems before the life span of the current system is over. And while we all like new technology and games, etc. Can we afford it?

The answer is, not the way we would like to be able to afford it. If you know a real gamer, it is the kind of person that has been playing since childhood. Want's all of the newest systems and accessories, and plays every game he/she can get a hold of. Get's every achievement, calls in for sick days... and is there at midnight when the game they have been waiting years for is finally out. Thing is, we simply cant do that anymore. It is costing us money, which in turn... costs everyone else money as well. The company should want to get the most out of a customer, just like a customer wants the most out of a company. And a few simple things can be done to make sure that happens.

Wouldent it be better for lets say...ten people to buy every product a company has, over another ten that just buy a couple here and there?

I came up with one solution. That could be taken into consideration.

Reward us.

Achievements. And a better use for them.

Achievements.

You know, those little things you try to get for bragging rights. To say, yeah... I am one of the proud few, that beat that game to perfection. Well say you beat Metal Gear Solid 4, and you got all of the achievements. After that maybe it could give youfive orten dollars off the newest Metal Gear Solid game that comes out. Making it more affordable, andten dollars closer to another game that you want to buy.

Or perhaps they could feature a game that is about to be out, and whoever owns three similar games to it and has all of the achievements unlocked for each one can get a special bonus. Like a twenty dollar mail in rebate. Now it would only make sense for them to make some of the achievements a little harder than normal to get. But gamers like a good challenge so this would only be fun for us. Not only are we trying to get this thing for bragging rights, but it will also help get another game I want badly. Thus one could actually stay up for hours and hours trying to get the one achievement, until victory finally occured.

Little things like this, giving us more... gives them more.

In essence there are many things that they could do to help us, this is only one small example. One thing that will not help us, is by making us spend money we don't have. If you are going to come out with a new system, at least find a better way for us to still make use out of our old system. Or a little easier to get the new one. It is not easy to drop six hundred dollars on a gaming system. Most people want it, but on average... we have car payments. We are normal people, with normal salaries... that just cant do both. Why not just make it to where we can.We the average, your cash crop.

The gaming industry and gamers are basically like a symbiotic relationship. Without one, the other can't thrive.

Want to put that on a timeline and see the survivial rate for an industry if the customer's are not around?

Fact:

I just realized after reading a few of my posts that I sound pretty nice. And I am a nice guy, but I am also very sarcastic. So dont mistake my sarcasm for enthusiasm.

Nostalgia.

Going over various posts about old games today such as Turtles in Time, or Super Ghouls and Ghosts. I just remembered how much I miss Battletoads... :(

First day as a gamespotter.

I am now a game spotter... YES!!! or... no??? I joined this site today because I saw a game that I really wanted to post a comment on. Unfortunately, those who have just joined the site cannot do such a thing until they are level 3. It pains me to know that a person cant even use a tool for which it is designed, furthermore... how does one get to a "level 3"? It does not specify anything other than the notion that one needs to continue to use the site for the ability to become one. Does the meaning of "use this site" translate to "post comments, write reviews, and of course other things you cant even do in the first place." Or could it mean to just browse the site until magically one day you are this thing you have set out to be. For crying out loud, let me tell the world how I feel about a videogame. To help them in the choice of good decision making. (Future reference for whomever will continue to read anything I write.) I do not mean to drag you all down into my world of specifics, but in my younger years I was a lego building tycoon. It's not my fault I became good at following directions... blame china or whoever it is that builds our toys for us. P.S. The game in question was "Section 8." If anyone has had the opportunity to take a look at the video, it is a shame. It looks like someone very limited on resources had an idea and tried to use a combination of the Unreal engine, with ideas ranging from Halo to Battlefield. Which ethically might not be a bad thing, why not use a cornucopia of the best of the best together in conjunction? But it falls short and the idea's are too easily discovered even with it's veil of shadows trying to hide the secret. It is too easily recognizable and the gaming community does not appreciate being taken as fools. My opinion "Section 8" makers... if you are going to use an idea that has already been done, bring it in a fresh and hip new way.
