I finally picked up The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess over the weekend, after it putting it off for a couple of months for reasons I don't really understand.
Anyway, I'm really enjoying it so far. I've just finished the fourth dungeon, and about 20 hours in, and it feels like I've got quite a bit of work ahead of me.
The world feels more alive than any other Zelda game yet, with the Castle Town being a bustling marketplace and Kakariko having the feeling of a small mining town. This is a great thing, since if there's one complaint I have with older Zelda games, it's the fact that it felt like Link was the only one doing something in the world. The gameplay has the authentic Zelda feel to it as well, great dungeon layouts, fantastic and logistical puzzles, just the right sprinkling of mini-games and sidequests, and a really interesting world to explore.
Still, I do have my complaints. The Twilight levels so far were fairly boring, the bug hunting specifically screamed gimmick to me, but that part of the game seems to be over. I also didn't really like the fourth dungeon, the item feels like the type of thing that's used once and discarded (though I'll probably be proven wrong on this one), and I didn't particularly enjoy the boss, but it's still definitely enjoyable.
I certainly hope the time estimates for this game are true, the thought of having another 20 hours to spend in this world is awesome.
Anyway, that's all from me. Seriously, go play Twilight Princess, as it stands, it feels like the best effort the Zelda team has put forth since Link to the Past.
